ELKINS - Against a pitcher as dominant as Elkins' Amber Caywood, an opposing team can ill afford to gift-wrap runs. Charleston discovered this Tuesday evening in the Class 3 A Region 1 final by committing seven errors, paving the way for a 9-0 blowout win by the Lady Elks.
"We made some costly errors and against a team like Elkins, you can't make any errors. You can't give them anything," Charleston coach Chad Haynes said.
Caywood - named Region 1 MVP - pitched no-hit ball and allowed just two baserunners to earn another shutout. In three contests at regionals, Elkins (26-2 ) outscored its opponents, 29-0.
