Good morning. This is a Wednesday morning and we are getting a good slow rain.

I am thankful for the rain, because it will water what few flower plants I have and I won’t have to remind Kyle to do it for me. He is a good helped, so is John and Dillion and every other friend and family member I have. Thank you all so much.

Our bake sale was a huge success thanks to everyone. We want to thank Bob and Margaret Ann Toney for their most generous donation, as well as bill and Irene Dougan, Frankie Strong, Joe Fraley and Calandra Snell Bigson. Thanks to Dan and James for putting up the canopy and helping with the tables. Jack and Rada Carter for furnishing the tables and hauling them for us, and Helen and Mildred fro bringing the chairs. All of you cooks -- without you all our tables would have been bare.

I voted Helen Lewis as Citizen of the Week. We always talk about not getting anything advertised. So Ms. Helen decided she would do something about it this time. She and Tammie made up flyers and printed them. Helen took them around to every business, City Hall and wherever she could think to put one. So thank you, my sister.

Last week was a great week for me. My granddaughter Calandra and her husband Brent and little Emma Presley moved from West Paul Beach, Fla., to Elkins. I am so happy to have them here. The 4 th o f July, all three of my children, all my grandchildren and great grandchildren were here, except for Jermey and Carrie Snell and their two little girls (one of which was born the day before ) and Mandy’s husband Troy and their three little daughters. Maybe Christmas, I hope. They all live away.

We had a great meal and great fireworks display. Other friends and relatives who celebrated with us were my sister Helen and her two daughters and husbands, Pat and Johnnie, Jodie and Jim, Johan and Judy Beard with their son Mark, Joe and Judy Karr, Betty Weathers and Jim Carter. In all there were 38 of us. Such a good day ! Hated to see Debbie have to go back to Texas Sunday but that’s life. If you have a job, your boss expects yo to be there for some reason. No work, no pay !

A big happy birthday to all you birthday people of July: Betty Ferguson (glad you are feeling better, Betty, good to see you back at the Center ), Pearl McCoy (come see us, lady ), Alvin Hattabaugh (always good to see you two at the Center ), Carol Evans, Connie Stepp, Linda Bese, Gwen Draper, Betty Wendt (hope all you ladies have a fun day and we get to see you around your birthday ), Anna Allen, David Stein and Jess Brandenburg. We wish you all a very happy, happy year and a healthy one.

The Elkins Senior Center is sponsoring an Ice Cream Party at Bunch Park on July 29 starting at 5 p. m. Of course, here I go begging again. If you have a freezer and want to have the fun of making ice cream, we really want to welcome you to make a big freezer or tow. I don’t know what it will be sold for yet, but I do know I will eat my share if I have a chance. I love homemade ice cream. Who knows, I may give a small prize to the person who makes the best freezer of ice cream. Of course, I will have to sample every freezer. Do I have anyone else who would like to help me judge ?

Remember Jeanette Clarke in your prayers. She has been sick for weeks. Now I hear she has pneumonia again. Hope you get up and at ‘ em real soon, girl. Our best to you.

I want to thank the folks at Harp’s Grocery for all the apologies they have given us at the Elkins Senior Center for not allowing us to set up our bake sale in front of their store. The gentleman who refused thought he was doing the right thing I am told. That is OK. I’m so sorry if I got someone in trouble by mentioning it in the paper. Really I was wanting to let the Toneys know just how very much we appreciated all lthe many things they have done over the years, and I’m afraid we had just taken it for granted because they were always there for us. We had a good location at the Community Church drive. We thank you all for letting us set up there.

Until next time, count your blessings -- we have many. Stay happy.
