Elkins Awareness week Alzheimer's Awareness begins Saturday, May 17, in Elkins. A parade will begin at 11 a.m. to kick off the week with a beans and cornbread lunch at the Community Center at noon; in the afternoon a Knowledge Fair, bake sale and children's reading at the Senior Citizen Center; at 6 p.m. Whistle Stop Seniors will hold a barbecue and fixings / music and dance benefit at the Durham Community Center with proceeds going to the Alzheimer's Association; Monday, May 19, from 9 a.m. to 5 p. m., T-shirts will be sold, memory cards in booths at Harp's; Wednesday at 11 a.m. a children's reading at the Elkins Public Library will be held; Thursday a booth at the Shell station will have tshirts and memory cards; Friday t-shirt's, memory cards, Alzheimer's booth, children's reading will be held at the Durham Community Center; Saturday, May 24, from 4-9 p. m.: Coach Frank Broyles, music benefit hosted by Bill Brake and candlelight ceremony will take place at Bunch Park with concession by Arvest Bank, candles by Hanna's.
Sock Hop For a fun trip down memory lane plan to attend the Sock Hop being held at the Elkins Community Center Saturday, May 31, beginning at 7 p.m.
Durham Lunch Whistle Stop Seniors will serve lunch Friday, May 16, with breaded chicken patty on bun, mac and cheese, veggie, desserts and drink. Come have fun at the Durham Community Center from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
West Fork Yard sale Fundraising yard sale, sponsored by First Presbyterian Church, West Fork, Friday, May 16, from 8 a.m. to 7 p. m.; Saturday, May 17, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. directly across from Dollar General on U. S. Highway 71 in West Fork. Some items: 40'extension ladder, furniture, dishes, clothes, tools, misc.
Swap meet VFW Post 2722 will hold their monthly swap meet on May 17 from 8 a. m.-5 p.m. If you have items to sell come early and set up for a $ 5 fee to sell. The Ladies Auxiliary will have baked goods for sale, all of the clothing you can put in a bag for $ 1 and pre-boxed items for varous prices starting at $ 1 per box. From the Greenland exit at I-540 take cord 65 south to Road 4235, turn right at VFW sign, from West Fork take Campbell Road, cross Interstate and turn left on 4235, VFW building on right. White House Service The White House Church of Christ will hold its Decoration Day service at 10: 30 a.m. Sunday, May 25. The lesson will be presented by Brother Bruce Casada. A potluch meal will be shared at noon in the pavilion. Everyone is welcome.
Fayetteville Washington County Arkansas Genealogical Society will meet Sunday, May 18, at 2 p.m. at the Headquarters House. The program entitled," Organizing Your Paper Files in a Computer Day and Age," presented by Carol Reel. The focus will be a four color coded system that will tie paper files to a computer program.
