Senator Barak Obama gave a commencement address at Wesleyan University the other day calling the nation’s youth to community service.

It was amusing to see a wealthy man who lives in a million dollar mansion criticize others for “ fulfilling your immediate wants and needs (which ) betrays a poverty of ambition ” as he continues his two year quest for the presidency. No evidence of any ambition there, right ?

He went on to describe the myriad ways young men and women, of no ambition of course, could volunteer to serve their community or their country. The list was more notable for what he left out of it.

Volunteering for military service was not something Obama listed as a worthwhile way to serve your country.

This should come as no surprise as the left in general and the extreme left that Obama represents has always held a great dislike for the military and those who volunteer to serve. Things like “ baby killer” and Kerry’s famous not-get-aneducation-and-get-stuck-in-Iraq come to mind.

Obama and his friends do not consider military service a valid way of serving your country.

My son, currently serving at Fort Benning in Georgia, would disagree. So would all those who volunteered to serve.

Knowing this brings a question to mind. What would an Obama administration be for the military ? If you say things like “ unilateral surrender and disarmament” go to the head of the class.

In a video Obama made for a pacifist group called the Caucus for Priorities, Obama laid out his priorities for the military.

“ First, I’ll stop spending $ 9 billion a month in Iraq. ”

How does one do that ? Not by winning, only by quitting. Barak is, by his own words, the official “ cut and run ” candidate. He would abandon the Iraqi people, turning his back on them, leaving them to their fate just as his predecessor did the people of Southeast Asia. That last instance of Democrat abandonment led directly to the Cambodian Killing Fields and the tragedy of the “ boat people. ” Millions suffered and died as the direct result of Democrat cut and run policies. Barak would repeat that same mistake with equally disastrous results.

“ Second, I will cut tens of billions of dollars in wasteful spending. I will cut investments in unproven missile defense systems. I will not weaponize space. I will slow our development of future combat systems. ”

In short, Barak would continue the Clinton military cuts, reducing our defenses even further. He would willingly leave this nation vulnerable to missile attack by some rogue nation, maybe even a nuclear missile attack. He would slow down the research and development of the equipment our men and women in uniform need to protect themselves and us. He would leave them and us vulnerable.

That must be the left wing view of “ support our troops, ” leave them with what will eventually become obsolete weapons systems. Then again, since they do not value the service these brave men and women provide, it is no wonder Obama and friends would strip them of the tools they require.

“ Third, I will set a goal of a world without nuclear weapons. ”

Naive does not even begin to cover this foolishness. Yeah, it would be nice. So would a world without dictators, rogue nations, genocide, and junk e-mail. It will do about as much good as early church efforts to un-invent gunpowder and the effort to ban war. The Kellogg-Briand Pact of 1928 was an international treaty to ban war. You see how well that worked. No wars since 1928, right ?

Barak goes on to talk about treaties with Russia but ignores the threat from places like Iran, which is working feverishly to develop is own nuclear weapons, to put on its own missiles, to launch at its enemies. Care to guess who that might be ? Remember the term “ the Great Satan ?”

President Obama would not only leave us vulnerable to such an attack, he would invite it by his display of weakness. President Clinton cut and ran from Somalia, inviting Osama bin Laden to attach us here. Bin Laden is quoted as saying that seeing us run from Somalia led him to believe that we could be attacked with impunity.

Obama and friends are anxious to repeat those mistakes.

From the Corner Booth, flags flying, praying for our troops,

God Bless America
