Thefirst and second grades, directed by April Smith, entertained a capacity audience in their rendition of the musical "Movin' to the Beat"last week at the Pea Ridge Elementary School gym.

The youngsters sang and danced their way through a number of songs that stressed the importance of health and physical fitness in their lives as they are growing up. The event was the eighth major musical production undertaken and performed under the direction of Ms. Smith since her arrival to the Pea Ridge community four years ago.

Assisted by physical education teacher Andrea Ricketts, the troupe also incorporated jumping rope, exercises and a variety of games to complement the messages of the songs.

At the end of the performance, a special presentation was made to the family of Ryan Mondy, a local first-grader who passed away recently following a long battle with cancer. A collection of pictures and memorabilia gathered by Ryan's classmates was presented. Announced at the musical was a 5 K run and Health Walk to be conducted on May 24 on the Pea Ridge campus as a fundraiser for Nancy Juarez, another local first-grader stricken with cancer.
