Taking Black to task
I’m sorry to disappoint Jean Landauer again by taking to task another petty decision by Benton County Judge Gary Black. While Black can spend thousands of county dollars to improve roads directly affecting property he owns, he seems to be hung up on giving out-of-circulation badges to retiring members of the sheriff’s department — a long-standing tradition in law enforcement. After all, these badges carry an estimated worth of $ 8. 25 a piece !
I believe Bob Caudle, the self-proclaimed equal opportunity insulator from the Morning News, got it right when he said this was nothing more than a cheap trick by Black to try to make Sheriff Ferguson look bad by giving away county property. If anyone looks bad, it’s Black. And remember, Andy Lee who is running against Sheriff Ferguson and Black are good buddies. Thank goodness, Black has finally decided to call it quits. He has, after all, gotten his property’s access roads paved and graveled so why hang around. PETE RATHMELL Garfield, Ark.
