40 Years Ago Pea Ridge Graphic Thursday, May 16, 1968 The end of school activities got underway in Pea Ridge Friday night with the annual Junior-Senior Banquet, and other events are scheduled from the Annual Awards Assembly Friday, Baccalaureate on Sunday, the Annual Senior Trip beginning Monday, sixth-grade graduation Tuesday and, finally, the most important event in any public school student's life - High School Graduation May 24. A well-liked Pea Ridge youth, who spent more then a fourth of this school year in a hospital, came out second from the top in grades in his high school graduating class. He is Eddie Inghram, 19-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. C. R. Inghram of Pea Ridge. The 10 weeks that he spent in the hospital wasn't an unique experience for him. An extreme hemophiliac, delicate health and the necessity to be protected from injury has been a way of life for him since his infancy.
30 Years Ago Pea Ridge Graphic-Scene Wednesday, May 17, 1978 Beta Alpha and Alpha Nu, the two local chapters of Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority, won several awards at the recent state convention at Pine Bluff, including second and third place outstanding chapter awards. Mayor J. C. McLeod presented the U. S. Census Bureau sheet to the Little Flock council. It listed the 622 residents of Little Flock in categories as to race, age and sex. It also listed Little Flock as having 191 occupied houses and 11 vacant houses. The Pea Ridge Planning Commission elected officers for the new fiscal year at a meeting May 8. Jay Hale was re-elected to serve as chairman, Don Haller was re-elected vice chairman and Dennis Turner was elected secretary. The outgoing secretary was Joyce Hale. The addition to the Benton County Jail will increase the jail's capacity from 23 prisoners to 63, with the addition of 13 three-man cells. The old jail originally held 50, but some design changes and new government space-per-prisoner requirements cut capacity in half, according to Perry Butcher, project architect.
20 Years Ago The Times of Northeast Benton County Wednesday, May 18, 1988 The Pea Ridge School Board approved Monday night a promotion and retention policy which includes an individual education plan for students who fail a grade. George Blevins is the new mayor of Avoca following the resignation last week of Kathy Trotter. The Bank of Pea Ridge could become a branch of First National Bank and Trust in Rogers by the end of the year, the president of the Bank of Pea Ridge said last week. The Pea Ridge Lions Club sponsored an auction to raise money to help support its sign program in the Pea Ridge School district, the club's president said.
10 Years Ago The Times of Northeast Benton County Thursday, May 14, 1998 Benji Mahan, of Mountain Home, a University of Arkansas football player will give the baccalaureate address in the gymnasium at Pea Ridge High School.
Mermaids seafood restaurant opened in Pea Ridge. Owner chef John Chervenyak has been in the restaurant business for 20 years.
The Pea Ridge School Board accepted a bid of $ 208, 950 from Harris and Davis construction for the new elementary media center. The board approved the following salary increases: $ 1, 000 across the board for certified, five percent for administrators and five percent for classified personnel.
There was a chicken barbecue in front of Montgomery's IGA to help send Pea Ridge High School students Rachel Shults and Heather Henson to Belgium for the summer to play in a basketball tournament.
