ROGERS PUBLIC LIBRARY

• The Library will be closed July 4 and July 5 in observance of Independence Day. Adult Couples' Night begins at 6 p.m. July 2. Bring a picnic dinner. This week's film is The Emerald Forest (Rated R-Runtime : 14 minutes), directed by John Boorman and starring Powers Boothe, Meg Foster, and Yara Vaneau. After the son of engineer is abducted by an aboriginal tribe on the edge of the rain forest, the engineer spends the next 10 years searching for him. Light refreshments provided. For ages 18 and up. No registration required. Crafts Craft Day fun begins at 10 a.m. and ends at 2 p.m. July 3. Join us in the craft room and make a dinosaur finger puppet. MILITARY NOTES

Ryan F. Wolnik Army Pvt. Ryan F. Wolnik has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla. During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission and received instruction and training exercises in drill and ceremonies, Army history, core values and traditions, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, rifle marksmanship, weapons use, map reading and land navigation, foot marches, armed and unarmed combat, and field maneuvers and tactics. He is the son of James A. Wolnik of Rogers. Erica Leek Private Pvt. Erica Leek of Fayetteville recently enlisted into the Arkansas Army National Guard. Pvt. Leek has earned a $10,000 enlistment bonus and other education benefits valued at $45,044. She will attend basic training followed by advanced individual training at Fort Lee, Va., as a food service specialist. Upon returning to Arkansas, Pvt. Leek will serve with 1-142 FSC in Bentonville. Helping Paws Helping Paws will meet at 6:30 p.m. July 2 at Peace Lutheran Church in Rogers, corner of Eighth and Olrich. Well behaved-leashed dogs are welcome. Military Order of the Cootie On July 4, the Military Order of the Cootie will be having a chicken barbecue for $5 per dinner on the corner of Highway 12 and Second St., in Rogers. All proceedings will be going to help veterans in the hospital and in the nursing home. The event will start at 11 a.m. Post 3031 will be open to the public. They will be having hotdogs and hamburgers. After dark they will be shooting off fireworks, you may also bring your fireworks starting at 4 p.m. Military Order of the Purple Heart Chapter 633 in Rogers will meet July 18 at the clubhouse at Foxfire Meadows on South 37th Street. All members and Purple Heart recipients are invited. Members will make final plans for the National Purple Heart Convention, to be held Aug. 11-15 at the Embassy Suites in Rogers. - Wednesday, July 1, 2009
