Fayetteville
Mary Jane Brooks, 52, formerly of Purdy, Mo., died Saturday, July 19, 2008, at the Circle of Life Hospice & Palliative Care in Springdale. She was born Aug. 7, 1955, in Auburn, Calif., the daughter of Johnnie and Wilma Bailey. She graduated from Monett High School in 1973. She moved to Fayetteville in 1982 where she owned and operated Janie's Day Care for 26 years. She was a member of the East Side Missionary Baptist Church in Fayetteville. She is survived by her husband, Troy Brooks; three sons: Kelly Crawford of Fayetteville, Rick Crawford of Springdale and Kenny Brooks of Farmington; one daughter, Cynthia Brooks of Springdale; 10 grandchildren; three brothers, Montie Bailey of Fayetteville, Mike Bailey of Cassville, Mo., and David Bailey of Monett, Mo.; three sisters, LeVeta Goldin of Republic, Mo., Betty Hicks of Wheelersburg, Ohio, and Linda Williams of Fayetteville. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the White Funeral Home in Cassville, Mo., with Pastors Lloyd Thomas and James Goff officiating. Burial will be at Antioch Cemetery in Cassville. Pallbearers will be Kelly Crawford, Rick Crawford, Kenny Brooks, Dale Pippin, Phillip Carnes, Kalen Richardson, Jeramy Pense and Brandon Bagsby. Memorials may made to the Cancer Support House in Fayetteville in care of the White Funeral Home. Arrangements are under the direction of the White Funeral Home in Cassville, Mo.
Lucille Mabry Croft, 88, died Saturday, July 19, 2008, in Fayetteville. She was born July 20, 1919, in the Spring Creek community of Benton County to Ed Mabry and Mable Sharp Mabry. She had one sister, the late Reba Mabry. The flu epidemic of 1918 claimed her father before Lucille's birth and her mother passed away when she was in her early teens. Lucille then lived with family and friends in various Benton County communities until she moved to Springdale to attend school. She graduated from Springdale High School and was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Springdale.
Upon graduation, Lucille married the late Walter Croft, and they remained residents of Springdale. Several years following Walter's death, Lucille moved to Butterfield Trail Village in Fayetteville to make that her "last corral "where she lived for more than seven years.
Lucille is survived by her four children: Carolyn Clary of Pangburn; Marolyn Fields of Louisville, Ky.; and the twins, William C. Croft of Eureka Springs and Robert W. Croft of San Diego, Calif.
She was grandmother to five: Tim Clary of Newnan, Ga.; Dr. Patrick Clary of Arkadelphia; Mitchell Wright Fields of Louisville, Ky.; Heather Fields Stern of Maplewood, N. J.; and Leigh Ann Croft Mathews of Muskogee, Okla.; and great-grandmother to eight: Caitlin, Travis and Ethan Clary of Newnan, Ga.; Benjamin and Evelyn Fields of Louisville, Ky.; Blake and Piper Mathews of Muskogee, Okla.; and Zachary Stern of Maplewood, N. J. Lucille was a lifelong homemaker and was known for her cooking and sewing ability. She was an avid reader and also enjoyed painting, quilting, knitting and needlework. The residents and staff of Butterfield Trail Village became Lucille's new family and community. She continually expressed her happiness there and her appreciation for the CNAs, the nursing staff, the dining / activities staff and the maintenance / landscaping crews (with whom she shared her chocolates ). Visitation will be at Nelson-Berna Funeral Home on Arkansas 265 in Fayetteville on Tuesday, July 22, 2208, between 5-9 p.m. and Wednesday between 9 a.m. and noon. The funeral service will be held in the chapel of First Baptist Church of Springdale on Wednesday, July 23, 2008, at 2 p.m. Burial will be in Bluff Cemetery in Springdale. Roy B. Richardson, 72, of Fayetteville died Saturday, July 19, 2008, at his home. Services are pending at Beard's Funeral Chapel and Crematory of Fayetteville.
Prairie Grove
Linda Gail Piazza, 64, of Prairie Grove died Saturday, July 19, 2008, at her home. She was born Jan. 10, 1944, in Greenwood, the daughter of James C. and Agnes Barton. She was a member of the Prairie Grove Christian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Piazza. Survivors include two sons, Joe Piazza of Johnson and Daniel Piazza of Amber, Okla.; two daughters, Tracy Winningham of Evansville and Teresa Clement of Prairie Grove; four brothers, William Chester Barton of Grove, Okla., Glen Barton of Lufkin, Texas, Tom Barton of Spring Valley and Donnie Barton of Prairie Grove; one sister, Jewel Fronterhouse of Barstow, Calif.; and 11 grandchildren. No services are planned at this time. The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, at the home of Rick and Teresa Clement, 13701 Cove Creek North, south of Prairie Grove. Winslow
Opal M. Foster, 93, of Winslow released the hand of the ones she loved into the hand of the One she has not seen (passed away ) on Sunday, July 20, 2008, at the Circle of Life Hospice and Palliative Care.
Opal was born on Oct. 3, 1914, in Brentwood to Floyd and Mable Mills Porter. She was united in marriage to J. D. Foster on July 1, 1933, and to this union five children were born.
She was a member of Winslow Church of Christ. Opal retired from Levi Strauss in 1971. Her hand was never idle as she kept active as a homemaker, avid gardener, seamstress, babysitter and cook.
Opal was preceeded in death by her husband of 53 years, J. D. Foster; parents Leonard Floyd and Mable M. Porter; two brothers, Robert and James Porter; and one sister, Nina Lemmings.
She is survived by her five children: Bill Foster and wife, Sue, of Fayetteville; Ernie Foster and wife, Harriet, of Heath, Ohio; Jerry Foster and wife, Brenda, of Springdale; Wanda Donaghe of Winslow; Terry Foster of Winslow; 15 grandchildren; 32 greatgrandchildren; 10 greatgreat-grandchildren; three brothers, Leon and Darrel Porter of Fayetteville and Gerald Porter of Springdale; and many other relatives and friends. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 23, 2008, at Winslow Church of Christ. Burial will be in Parks Cemetery under the direction of Moore's Chapel. Springdale
Ila June Carter, 81, of Springdale died July 19, 2008, at Northwest Medical Center of Springdale. She was born Jan. 17, 1927, in Morris, Okla., the daughter of John W. and Mary E. Lostutter Baker. She was a retired bookkeeper for a dental group. Survivors include two sons, Phil Anderson of Dallas and Danny Anderson of El Paso, Texas; two daughters, Judy Carter of Springdale and Kim Torstrick of Woodway, Texas; 17 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. A Circle of Love celebration service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Bluff Cemetery. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Sisco Funeral Chapel of Springdale.
Huntsville
Virgie Isabelle Wiles, 89, of Huntsville died July 19, 2008, at Meadowview Healthcare and Rehab in Huntsville. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Brashears Funeral Home of Huntsville.
