Bulldogs remain undefeated after swatting Yellowjackets

The Fayetteville Bulldogs moved to 7-0 on the season as they defeated the Wynne Yellowjackets, 51-26, to win the OrthoArkansas/CAC Invitational Tournament in North Little Rock.
The Bulldogs opened the game with a 24-3 run in the first quarter to lead the way to their second tournament title in as many weekends. The Bulldogs won The Kickapoo Tipoff Classic in Springfield, Mo. last weekend.
The Bulldogs controlled the opening tip and patiently worked the ball against the Wynne zone defense until Kikko Haydar would dish the first of his game high 10 assists to Fred Gulley to grab a quick 2-0 lead.
Jake Veasley answered with a 3- pointer for Wynne, but that would be their last score of quarter as the Bulldogs would rattle off 22 straight points. Cable Hogue would capture 8 of his game-high 18 points while Haydar would contribute 6 assists. Taylor Cochran drained a 3 just before the buzzer. The Bulldogs did not suffer a turnover in the first quarter.
The second quarter was not near as impressive as the first as the Bulldogs struggled a little on offense as the Yellowjackets pulled within 28-14 at the half.
After the halftime break, the Bulldogs remained cold from the field, but after a quick 3 from Veasley for Wynne Fayetteville would not allow another field goal as Cochran's pressure on Jordan Weaver would stymie most of the Yellowjacket possessions.
Weaver scored a total of 48 points in Wynne's previous two victories in the tournament, but faced with pressure from Gulley early in the game and Cochran would be held to just four lonely free throws for his efforts. Adam Noble would score twice in the waning minutes of the third to stretch the lead back out to 34-21.
A Cochran 3, followed by Gulley's short jumper and Hogue's layin by catapulted the Bulldogs to a 45-26 lead with 2:24 to play.
Hogue lead the charge with 18 points and 8 rebounds. Haydar added 8 boards, 10 assists and 6 points.
Cochran scored 9, Gulley had 8 and Noble scored 6.
The Bulldogs will now face the defending Class 6A Champion LR Hall (9-0), which sport a 26-game winning streak going back to last year, at home at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
Hall comes in after winning the prestigious Jammin For Jackets event in Little Rock and features Baylor signee A.J. Walton.
