ANTHONY REYES Northwest Arkansas Times Prairie Grove sophomore running back Caleb Sugg (14 ) heads upfield against Farmington Friday in Prairie Grove. The Tigers won 28-15.

Fayetteville - Prairie Grove's Wing-T offense produced big numbers on Friday night against Farmington. After a slow start the Tigers'run-based offense gained 274 yards on the ground in route to a 28-15 victory over the rival Cardinals.

The basis of the Wing T for Prairie Grove (3-2, 2-0 ) is a series of counter-trap plays that consistently produces 3 to 5 yards per play. The Tigers used this basic formation to perfection against the Farmington.

"The counter trap is the basis of the whole thing and we have to get that back because we haven't had it for work for a while," Prairie Grove coach Danny Abshier said. "We kept trying it and it worked tonight."

Farmington (3-2, 1-1 ) had no answer for the countertrap as well as the speed of Prairie Grove's running backs.

"We knew going in that we were at a disadvantage in speed," Farmington coach Mike Adams said.

Prairie Grove used this speed to its advantage racking up 274 yards rushing. This was slightly better than the season average in which the Tigers had been averaging 256 yards rushing per game.

Thomas Soehner led the way for Tigers in the run game with 18 carries for 91 yards and a touchdown. This gave Soehner an average of 5. 0 yards per carry which was slightly under his 6. 5 per game, but he performed well as the anchor of the attack.

Anthony Sharp was right on his heels with 87 yards on 18 carries. Sharp was also slightly under his season average per carry, but he also had one catch for 94 yards and a touchdown.

Caleb Sugg had the biggest improvement on the night for the Tigers. Coming into the game he had just three carries for 9 yards, but he carried the ball four times for 50 yards giving Soehner and Sharp a much needed break at key times.

Chad Austin also made several key first downs on the ground for Prairie Grove. He doubled his season average of 2 yards per carry with 5 carries for 23 yards giving him an average of 4. 6 per play.

Hayden Bowling doubled his offensive output on the ground giving the Tigers 15 yards on his one carry. Coming into the game he had only one carry for 10 yards.

Prairie Grove will look to continue its success on the ground as the Tigers travel to Shiloh Christian next week to take on the Saints.
