The Washington County Fraternal Order of Police will host its No Limit Texas Hold’em Tournament of Champions tonight to benefit the 2008 Shop with a Cop program.

The event will take place in the east wing of the Washington County Sheriff ’s Office, 1155 Clydesdale Drive in Fayetteville. Dinner will be served between 4: 30 p. m. and 5: 30 p. m. and will include hot dogs, hamburgers, cole slaw, beans, chips, drinks and dessert. The Tournament of Champions begins at 6 p. m.

The entry fee for the tournament and dinner is $ 30. All proceeds benefit the Shop with a Cop program, which gives area needy children the chance to go on a one-hour shopping spree at a local Wal-Mart store to purchase items they need during the holiday season.

“ We hope to sponsor 50 kids this year, but so far we have enough funding for about 23, ” Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Brian Comstock said. “ We give each of them $ 100, and they get to go through the store and purchase whatever they need within one hour. ”

Comstock said the annual event typically takes place around mid-December at the Wal-Mart Supercenter on Sixth Street.

Check-in for the Tournament of Champions begins at 5: 30 p. m. To register, call 444-5720.
