Man arrested following gunshot incident

A local man was arrested Friday following a gunshot incident that sent a woman to Washington Regional Medical Center in critical condition.
David E. Walker, 20, of 896 S. Silverado Drive, No. 302, in Fayetteville was arrested on charges of aggravated assault, first-degree battery, theft by receiving, simultaneous possession of drugs and firearms and possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver (marijuana ), according to information released by Fayetteville Police Chief Greg Tabor.
The investigation of the incident began when Fayetteville police responded to a report of an individual having been shot at the apartment on Silverado. According to the release, officers could not find a victim but located evidence that a shooting had occurred.
During that time, Washington County Sher iff ’s Office deputies attempted to stop an orange Chevrolet Caprice, operated by Walker, for driving erratically on 15 th Street. According to the release, the driver refused to stop and continued west on South School. The Caprice was stopped north of Cato Springs Road with the assistance of Arkansas State Police.
A local woman, Savanna Antoinette Wright, 19, of Fayetteville was found inside the car with a gunshot wound. State troopers notified Fayetteville officers of the gunshot victim, prompting local police and Central Emergency Medical Service personnel to arrive moments later. According to information in the release, Wright was listed in critical condition as of Friday evening.
Witnesses at the scene confirmed the victim’s identity.
“ I was inside when I saw everyone pull into the parking lot all at once, ” said Lisa Hill, who was inside her Four Star Elite Grooming Salon when police arrived. “ I saw that it was Savanna, and I ran outside to see if she was OK. When she got out of the car, she was holding a bloody rag to her face. ”
Hill identified Wright as one of her clients.
“ I saw that she was with her boyfriend, ” Hill said. “ I watched him get into a cop car, but he wasn’t handcuffed. Savanna walked toward the ambulance, and they put her onto a stretcher and loaded her up. ”
Initially, Fayetteville Police Sgt. Bill Phelan said the shooting appeared to be accidental but that further investigation was needed. According to the release, the investigation revealed Walker shot Wright during an altercation. The investigation also found Walker was in possession of 39 grams of marijuana and a stolen handgun prior to being stopped. According to police information, the gun was stolen from a Fayetteville residence during an unrelated incident.
