CCOA to hold homebuyer education class Saturday

Credit Counseling of Arkansas will continue its monthly homebuyer education class from 9 a. m. to 6 p. m. Saturday at the Jones Center for Families, Room 219, in Springdale.
Additional classes are scheduled for Aug. 9 at United Bank, 2790 S. Thompson Ave. in Springdale, and Sept. 13 at the Jones Center.
Classes are free, open to the public and particularly valuable for buyers interested in using the Arkansas Development Finance Authority’s firsttime homebuyer programs. First-time homebuyers (defined as anyone who hasn’t owned a home in the last three years ) who meet ADFA qualifying criteria are eligible to receive various types of financial assistance from the ADFA. This can include an interest rate buy-down for the mortgage or two different programs to cover down payment and closing costs.
Topics covered at the session will be:
• Preparing for homeownership — Planning for expenses included in homeownership; increasing borrowing power; and getting credit ready.
• Shopping for a home — Finding the “ right” house; negotiating the purchase; and home inspections.
• Obtaining a mortgage — Shopping and applying for a loan; loan processing; and preparing to close on a home.
• Life as a homeowner — Maintaining a home; meeting obligations as a borrower; budgeting; and financial benefits of homeownership.
