Drake to host ‘Trains, Planes and Automobiles’ fundraiser

“ Trains, Planes and Automobiles” is coming to Fayetteville for Father’s Day. The June 17 event will take place at Drake Field and is a fundraiser for the Exchange Club of Fayetteville and the Arkansas Air Museum.
The festivities begin at 8 a. m. with a poker run and continue at 11 a. m. with a car show, antique airplane display and a train ride at noon from Fayetteville to Springdale and back. Helicopter and plane rides will also be available. Food vendors will be on site.
“ Guests at the event can tour the Arkansas Air Museum and the Military Museum at Drake, as well as take in the automobile competition, a silent auction and even enjoy a special parachute jump, all for the $ 5 price of admission to the Field, ” said Brenda Brown, Arkansas & Missouri Railroad operations manager. “ The train ride tickets even include the $ 5 entry fee to the event. We’re expecting a big turnout for this first year’s ‘ Trains, Planes and Automobiles. ’ ”
A special train ride package is also available June 16. Guests will have an opportunity to travel by train from Fort Smith to Fayetteville and stay overnight at the Clarion Inn in Fayetteville. The train will return to Fort Smith at 2 p. m. June 17.
Judging for the automobile competition will take place at 1 p. m. Sunday. The $ 25 fee to compete in the auto show also includes the entry fee for Drake Field. Sponsorships and vendor booths are available. The event will be hosted by the A & M Railroad passenger train, the Arkansas Air Museum, Exchange Club of Fayetteville and the Ozark Military Museum.
