Local groups teaming up to gather Bible records
Posted on Thursday, June 22, 2006
The Marion Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Washington County Genealogical Society are working with the West Fork and Elkins public libraries to collect and preserve Bible records in the area and make the information available to the public. These records will also be sent to the National Society DAR Library in Washington and the libraries assisting in the project.
The West Fork Public Library will be open for people to bring either Bibles or copies of the family genealogy data recorded in the Bibles from 10 a. m. to 1 p. m. Saturday. The Elkins Public Library is opening its doors from 11 a. m. to 2 p. m. Saturday, July 29.
The volunteers doing this project would like to obtain a brief paragraph about the family and its origin to go along with the Bible records. To learn more about this project, call Lisa Carper at 443-2695 or Marcia Connors at 527-6994.
The volunteers will copy the front cover page with the date of the Bible if that is available, make a sheet transcribing what is written if it is hard to read, and will copy the original pages of genealogical information.
Anyone owning a family Bible is invited to bring it in, and copies already made are acceptable since many people no longer have the original Bible. Any Bible records are welcome even if the records are not from Arkansas.
