Longtime Siloam Springs city official dies

SILOAM SPRINGS — Sue Anglin, 67, lifetime Siloam Springs resident and longtime member of the Siloam Springs Board of Directors, died Friday of a heart attack, friends said.
City flags were lowered to half staff in recognition and to honor her life, said Mayor M. L. "Moose" Van Poucke. Anglin had served on the city board since the city’s adoption of a city administrator form of government in 1979.
Anglin also worked at Northside Elementary as a secretary for more than 20 years, from 1981 to 2003.
Friends and colleagues on Friday recalled memories of Anglin. "She was probably the most caring person I ever knew, and that’s who she was to everybody. That’s what made her such a wonderful person," said Mike Flynn, who served on the city board with Anglin for 12 years.
City Administrator David Cameron said, "We have lost a true pioneer that continuously strived to make our community better."
Mark Latham, who served as city administrator of Siloam Springs for 11 years, said, "I worked with Sue over a course of 24 years, and she had a strong heart for Siloam Springs. She always stood strong on her convictions and her values, never wavering.
Anglin was a vocal advocate of Siloam Springs Memorial Hospital and education.
She consistently referred to her duties as a member of the city board of directors as community service.
" Sue was a staunch supporter of the hospital. I was deeply saddened about the news, "said Joyce Van Roekel, executive director of the hospital foundation." She was a great donor and a great supporter of the hospital. "
Funeral arrangements are pending under the direction of Wasson Funeral Home of Siloam Springs. City offices will be closed for the service.
Van Poucke said the city will hold a special election to fill Anglin’s unexpired term, which would have expired Dec. 31, 2006.
