Director of Nursing named at Ozark Guidance Ozark Guidance recently promoted Jeanine Stabile, RN, to the director of nursing position. Stabile has been with Ozark Guidance since January 2006, most recently serving in Infection Control.

As director of nursing, she will be responsible for the supervision, training and quality of care delivered by nursing personnel, as well as insuring nursing practice compliance with state, federal, and JCAHO accreditation standards. Stabile holds a master's degree in abnormal psychology from Pepperdine University in Irvine, Calif., and has nine years of behavioral health nursing experience. Three honored as Terrific Kids The Fayetteville Metro Kiwanis Club presented three local children with the Terrific Kid Award on April 25 at the Fayetteville Boys and Girls Club.

Awards were presented to Tony Johnson of the Keystone Club (ages 14-18 ), Deja Smith from the Power Hour Group (all ages ) and Trey Smith from the Torch Club (ages 11-13 ).

Terrific Kids is a student recognition program that promotes character development, self-esteem and perseverance. Students work with their classroom teachers, establishing a goal which they are to accomplish in a specific time period. Recognition includes being pinned as a Terrific Kid, a foodthemed party in their honor and presentation of certificates and other giveaways. Faculty members honored by College of Education and Health Professions The College of Education and Health Professions at the University of Arkansas honored faculty members who won awards for the 2007-08 academic year at the annual Honors Convocation April 16.

Award winners included Chris Lucas, professor of higher education and educational foundations, for teaching; Jay Greene, professor of education reform, for research; Cheryl Murphy, associate professor of educational technology, for service; Susan Riggs, instructor of curriculum and instruction, for advising; Michael Wavering, associate professor of secondary education, for all-around performance; and Charles Riggs, professor of kinesiology, for career achievement.

The college also recognized winners of outstanding student awards and scholarship recipients. The college awarded scholarships totaling $ 403, 257 to 222 students for the 2008-09 academic year. Last year, the college awarded scholarships totaling $ 374, 000 to 199 students. Local author featured in newest'Chicken Soup'book The latest edition of the popular "Chicken Soup"series," Chicken Soup for the Father and Son Soul," will feature an original short story by Springdale author Nancy Kay Grace. "Strong Arm Needed"tells of a son determined to make it as a football player who calls on his dad to help. Through months of practice the son reaches his goal and realizes the bond he's created with his father. Grace is an inspirational writer and speaker for women's retreats and conferences. This is her second "Chicken Soup"story. Entries now accepted for Little Miss Arkansas The 2008 Little Miss Arkansas Pageant will take place May 24 at the convention center in Hot Springs. The pageant is open to any Arkansas girl up to 17 years of age. There are five age groups with a winner and two alternates in each. Contestants will compete in casual wear and pageant dresses. A photogenic competition is also available in each age group. The Little Miss Arkansas Talent competition is open to all contestants ages 3-17.

Grand Slam set for May 17 The Pagnozzi Charities fourth annual Grand Slam Celebration will take place at 6 p.m. May 17 at the home of Colleen and Tom Pagnozzi.

The event will include food, drinks, live entertainment by Oreo Blue and a live auction with items such as Razorback baseball memorabilia, a Romance Diamond Co. shopping spree, an autographed Hannah Montana guitar, a trip for two to Alberta, Canada, and a trip to a Cardinals game series in St. Louis with Tom Pagnozzi.
