Righteous Brother entertains 2008 Gala The 15 th annual Washington Regional Foundation Gala, set for April 1 at the Walton Arts Center, will feature entertainment by Righteous Brother Bill Medley. This year marks the 20 th anniversary of Washington Regional Foundation, raising millions of dollars through the efforts of donors and volunteers. During the past 15 years the Gala has provided more than $ 772, 000 for a variety of health care programs. Ticket sales for balcony seating at the Gala begin March 7. for Miss Shamrock Miss Shamrock, a St. Patrick’s Day pageant, will take place at 2 p. m. March 15, at the Gravette High School Performing Arts Center. The pageant is a fundraiser conducted by the Gravette Gleamers 4-H Club. Contestants will compete in Beauty Wear / Evening Gown only. Girls ages 11 and under are to wear church dresses (short ) and natural makeup. Girls 12 and older can wear pageant dresses (long ) and full makeup.
Age divisions are 0-23 months, 2-3 years, 4-5 years, 6-7 years, 8-9 years, 10-11 years, 12-13 years, 14-15 years and 16-18 years. Entry fee is $ 20 with an optional photogenic contest available for each age division for an additional $ 5. An Audience Favorite award will also be given based on audience members’ $ 1 votes.
Completed registration forms and entry fees should be mailed by March 7 to Miss Shamrock, 16370 Bethlehem Road, Gravette, AR 72736. Entry forms can be obtained at the Benton County Extension office in Bentonville, Bank of Gravette in Hiwasse or Arvest Bank in Gravette. for volunteers Sexual Assault Recovery and Prevention Agency (SARPA ) is looking for volunteers to assist the agency in its fight against sexual assault. Formal training is being offered from Feb. 29-March 4. A background check is required for all volunteers.

The Springdale Public Library has been selected as one of 40 sites in the country to host the traveling panel exhibition, “ Benjamin Franklin: In Search of a Better World. ”
The exhibit tells the story of the man who began his life as a poor printer’s apprentice and ended it as a revered elder statesman known throughout the world for his wisdom, wit and resourcefulness. His achievements in diplomacy, science and philanthropy, amongst other fields, influenced the path of a new nation and continued inspiration.
The exhibit draws upon original documents, photographs of handwritten and printed documents, objects owned by Franklin, maps, paintings and drawings and was curated by Rosalind Remer, Ph. D., executive director of the Benjamin Franklin Tercentenary, and Page Talbott, Ph. D., associate director of the Benjamin Franklin Tercentenary and chief curator of the original major exhibit of the same name.

SOS announces 2008 essay contest Stamp Out Smoking, the media and public relations campaign for the Arkansas Department of Health Tobacco Prevention and Cessation Program, has announced the 2008 “ SOS Clean Air Avengers” essay contest. The contest will give Arkansas students in grades two through nine the opportunity to submit an essay about a “ hero ” in their lives who maintains a healthy and smoke-free lifestyle. The online contest is open for submissions through the SOS Web site, www. stampoutsmoking. com, until 5 p. m. March 14.
Essays should include examples of ways in which the hero practices and encourages a healthy and tobacco-free lifestyle and should be between 300-750 words. Entries will be judged in three grade categories: second-third, fourth-sixth and seventh-ninth. First-, second- and third-place winners will be announced by 5 p. m. April 30.
Prizes for grades two and three are a Nintendo Wii for first place, High School Musical 15-inch LCD TV for second and Nintendo DS for third. For grades four through six prizes are a laptop computer for first place, 80 GB iPod Classic for second and 1 GB iPod Shuffle for third. Grades seven through nine can win a laptop computer for first place, 8 GB iPod Touch for second and 4 GB iPod Nano for third.
