Gallery hosts Valentine special Heartwood Gallery in Fayetteville will host "Art of the Heart "from 5-9 p.m. Saturday. The event will offer fine arts and crafts for sale for a unique gift-giving opportunity. Chocolates and champagne will also be provided for the shoppers. "Art of the Heart "will kick off a week of highlighted items by each artist, during which the gallery will be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. Heartwood Gallery is located at 428 S. Dance fundraiser set for Feb. 22 Dance Coalition, a local nonprofit group of choreographers and dancers, will host the third annual "So You Think You Know How to Dance ? "fundraiser Feb. 22 at the Clarion Inn, 1255 S. Shiloh Drive, Fayetteville. Doors will open at 6 p.m. for an appetizer hour and silent auction. The competition begins at 7: 30 p.m.
Dancers can register in advance for the Junior (ages 7-13 ) or Senior (ages 14 and up ) divisions. Deadline to register is Feb. 20. Sign-in begins at 6 p.m. with orientation at 7 p.m. the night of the competition.
Dancers of all styles and technical levels are invited to compete. Entries should depict generally recognized styles of dance. Entry fees are $ 20 for solos and duos and $ 20 for groups plus $ 5 for each participant in addition to the first two.
The contest will consist of two rounds. In the first round, dancers will present their pieces to judges and the audience. The judges will select the top three dancers from whom the winner will be chosen by audience votes of dollar donations. There will be separate voting for the Junior and Senior competitions.
Winners will receive a scholarship to the next Dance Coalition workshop and a trophy. Additional awards may be given at the judges' discretion.
Ticket for the event are $ 25 or $ 10 general admission to the competition portion only. Tickets and registration forms are available online at www. dancecoalition. com. Contestants needed for Miss Dogwood The Miss Dogwood Scholarship Pageant is now accepting entries from contestants. The pageant will take place at 3 p.m. March 29 at the Siloam Springs High School Performing Arts Auditorium. Miss Dogwood is an official preliminary to the Miss Arkansas, Miss Arkansas Outstanding Teen and Miss Arkansas Teen Beauty pageants. Winners will go on to compete in the state pageants this summer. In addition, the newly crowned Princess Dogwood will have the opportunity to travel with the miss and teen queens to the state pageants.
Girls and women from Benton, Washington, Madison, Carroll, Boone, Crawford, Marion and Baxter counties are eligible to compete in one of the four divisions: Princess (ages 8-12 ), Teen Beauty (ages 13-18 ), Outstanding Teen (ages 13-17 or high school junior ) and Miss (ages 17 or high school senior to 24 ). Girls attending the University of Arkansas must have completed a minimum of 12 hours by March 25 to be eligible.
Contestants in Miss Dogwood and Miss Dogwood Outstanding Teen will compete in private interview, lifestyle and fitness wear (Miss in swimsuit, Teen in active wear ), on-stage question, artistic expression and evening wear. The Miss Dogwood Teen Beauty competition includes private interview, lifestyle and fitness wear in swimsuit, on-stage question and evening wear. Deadline to enter is March 25. SOS announces drama contest Stamp Out Smoking, the media and public relations campaign for the Arkansas Department of Health Tobacco Prevention at Home CEO Judith Selle. and Cessation Program, is sponsoring the fifth annual tobacco-free drama contest.
The Big Pitch contest will give students across the state a chance to write and star in their own television spot highlighting the dangers of secondhand smoke.
This year's winning school will receive a $ 2, 500 in-store credit for drama equipment. The second place school will receive $ 1, 000 with $ 500 going to the third place school. All entries will be posted on stampoutsmoking. com for voting. A People's Choice award will be given to the entry receiving the most votes and will be awarded iTunes gift cards.
The Big Pitch is open to all students in Arkansas middle, junior high and high schools. Entries must be submitted by a school sponsor and must be 27 seconds long and focused on the dangers of secondhand smoke. Entries must be postmarked by Feb. 29. Winning schools will be notified by 5 p.m. April 4.
