Lean manufacturing series scheduled in October Arkansas Manufacturing Solutions will conduct a fiveday workshop this month on lean manufacturing, a concept designed to eliminate waste and improve productivity, performance and profitability. Workshop attendees will have the opportunity to learn and participate in simulations of concepts and methodologies such as principles of lean, value-stream mapping, visual workplace, total productive maintenance and set-up reduction. The event will take place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 23-27 at the University of Arkansas Engineering Research Center, 700 Research Blvd., in Fayetteville. The cost is $ 1, 095 per attendee. CCOA offering bankruptcy counseling as part of federal mandate Credit Counseling of Arkansas (CCOA ) is offering counseling services related to the Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protect Act, which went into effect on Oct. 17, 2005. The law stipulates that individuals considering bankruptcy are required to undergo pre-filing counseling before they can file. In the one-on-one counseling, a certified counselor conducts a thorough evaluation of the client's finances and provides information about what bankruptcy will entail for the client's current and future situation. Once the session is complete, individuals have 180 days to decide to file.
If they do proceed with the filing, the law also requires them to attend a pre-discharge education session before their debts are discharged. The class contains information about moneymanagement fundamentals, the responsibility that comes when using credit, avoiding consumer fraud and other basic life-skill lessons. This session can be done in person, over the phone or online. It usually lasts about two hours.
As of Oct. 17, Credit Counseling of Arkansas has issued 2, 397 pre-filing counseling certificates and 802 pre-discharge education certificates. CCOA is certified to assist bankruptcy clients in Arkansas, Oklahoma and Missouri.
