Gentry soccer teams earn postseason awards

GENTRY ó A successful season for the Gentry boysí and girlsí soccer teams has turned into several postseason awards for members of both teams.
Three Gentry players were named All-State in Class 4 A and seven more earned All-Conference honors from the 1-4 A Conference.
Lady Pioneers Ashley Oliva and Kendra Boyd earned All-State honors as did sophomore boys player Robbie White.
Jaime Christensen, Ausha Griffin and Adora Lee earned All-Conference honors for the Lady Pioneers, who finished 6-8-2 overall in their second varsity season, including a 4-2 mark in the 1-4 A Conference that earned them third place.
All-Conference players for the Pioneers, who went 7-10-1 overall and 4-3 in conference, were Lorenzo Figueroa, Joseph Romig, Alex Xiong and Vector Xiong.
Oliva and Romig earned All-State Tournament team honors. Casey Haynes earned All-Conference Honorable Mention for the Lady Pioneers, while Kam Homdee and Ryan Walker earned the same honor for the boys.
Boyd, a forward, led the Lady Pioneers with 17 goals on the year, while Oliva finished with 8 goals. Lee scored 6 goals for Gentry.
The Lady Pioneers, after allowing 75 goals a year ago in a 1-15 season, allowed only 30 this year.
Alex Xiong led the Pioneers with 6 goals, while White, a goalkeeper help conference opponents to only 14 goals during the conference season.
Gentry soccer coach Dan Childress, who coaches both teams, earned 1-4 A Girlsí Coach of the Year honors and is the conferenceís Class 4 A Coach of the Year nominee and All-Star nominee.
ì I was very humbled and honored by the award, î Childress said. ì I told the girls it was really their award, î he added.
Also earning All-State honors was Decaturís Gold Vang. The Lady Bulldogs went 0-6 in conference play.
