Kickoff party planned for new skate park in Gentry
Posted on Wednesday, May 14, 2008
GENTRY ó Parks Commission members are planning a kickoff party at the city libraryís pocket park to unveil plans for a new skate park in Gentry.
Plans will be formally unveiled and a fund drive started to build the new park at the open community event from 6 to 8 p. m., Saturday, June 7.
The design is for a 2, 242 squarefoot cement facility in the northeast corner of the city park which includes a five-foot quarter pipe, bank to block combo, two-tier manual pad, bank to curb, and big-three stair with hubba ledge. Construction costs for the entire project were estimated to come in under $ 50, 000. A portion of the funding ó $ 26, 000 ó is already available for the project and another $ 24, 000 is yet needed before the project can be put out to bid and built.
The commission is hoping that donations from community members and businesses will make up the difference between moneys available and moneys needed to complete the project.
Free beef hot dogs, chips and drinks will be served at the kickoff. Community members are invited to attend and help raise support for the Gentry project. Drawings of the project can be viewed online at www. gentryarkansas. us / skatepark. html.
