DECATUR ó The first farmersí market in Decatur was held last Friday in Veteranís Park.

Vendors from Decatur and Siloam Springs gathered, selling garden vegetables, flowers and sweet corn.

Mai Yang, of Decatur, stood behind a table filled with cucumbers, herbs, peppers, cherry tomatoes, potatoes and beans. Yang said she has always grown a big garden for her family but this is her first year to sell vegetables at the farmersí market. She also sells her produce at the farmersí market in Rogers. Yang said she may sell home-made egg rolls on Saturday evenings at the Acoustic Jam.

Steve Odom and his daughter Candice Odom were busy selling sweet corn out of the back of their pickup truck. Steve said they grow watermelon, cantaloupe, cucumbers, squash and okra to sell at the Siloam Springs farmersí market. This year they also planted 20 acres of sweet corn.

The market will be open in Veterans Park every Friday morning, beginning at 7 a. m., and every Saturday evening beginning at 6 p.m. and throughout the Acoustic Jam. Vendors selling vegetables, fruit, flowers and fresh eggs are welcome and fees have been waived for the first year.
