"Golf has been a godsend in meeting new friends," Gail Kidd said after winning a tournament Oct. 3.

Kidd, a Rogers resident who has been playing golf in Bella Vista for 10 years, is the 2008 Women's 18-hole Golf Club League Champion.

The tournament was played at the Bella Vista Country Club Golf Course on Oct. 2 and at Berksdale on Oct. 3. Kidd's final score for the two days was 156.

"I was rooting her on," said Bella Vistan Nancy Gross, who finished one stroke behind Kidd.

The weather and course conditions challenged both players.

"The weather was cold, frosty and wet in the morning," Kidd said. "(Berksdale ) didn't dry up until the last six holes. Putting was very difficult because of the pin placement and course conditions."

"If she had missed the last putt, we would have tied and gone into sudden death," Gross said, but Kidd made the 3-foot putt. "With those conditions, that was a tough putt."
