Posted on Wednesday, October 8, 2008
Lee and Sharon Golaway, with their son Marc and daughter-in-law Miki, have delighted Bella Vista audiences over the years with Christmas concerts at the Mildred B. Cooper Memorial Chapel.
On Sunday, Oct. 12, at 6 p. m., the Golaway family and friends will again share their musical talents in a performance of gospel and praise music at Bella Vista First United Methodist Church, 20 Boyce Drive.
The concert is open to the public. A freewill offering will be taken. The performers Sharon Golaway has been playing the piano since she was 2. After 13 years of classical training to become a concert pianist, she realized her love was church music. Since moving to Bella Vista, she has played for the Methodist church, the Bella Vista Women's Chorus, filled in for the Bella Vista Men's Chorus and played for several Village Players productions. She sings alto in the family group.
Lee Golaway, a native Californian, moved to northwest Arkansas in the summer of 1992. He was in carpentry and construction most of his life, and now works part time as a van driver. He is chairman of the board and treasurer of his church. He adds a lead and tenor voice to the group.
Mark Golaway is a teacher and National Guard chaplain. After serving for several years in the Guard and teaching at Ambassadors for Christ Academy in Bentonville, he felt the call of God on his life to become a chaplain. After years of traveling to Springfield, Mo., for seminary, he received his master's degree and was immediately deployed to Iraq. He returned about this time last year and is teaching again. Mark sings baritone or fills in wherever a part is needed.
Mark's wife, Miki, teaches at ACA, where she has used her master's degree in drama and speech. She sings lead for the Golaway family.
Mark and Miki's son, Daniel, is a ninth-grader at ACA and enjoys singing and performing. This is the first time Daniel will be singing in a trio with his mom and grandma, as well as in a trio with his dad and grandpa, as well as playing the offertory.
Hal Fitch moved to Bella Vista in 2006 from Douglas, Wyo., to be closer to his family. He began playing drums in the second grade and has played with a number of country western bands in South Dakota and Wyoming over the years. He sings bass and has been harmonizing with his family sing-alongs since childhood and singing in church choirs and small groups. He currently plays drums and sings with the Praise Band at First United Methodist Church in its contemporary service. He also has provided percussion for two Village Players productions.
Vance and Lila Monday are familiar to fans of the Ozark Classic Country Music Show in Bella Vista, where they perform the second and fourth Fridays of each month.
Don Dragland grew up in a musical family where making homespun music was the norm for family recreation. Here in Bella Vista, he has played baritone in the Community Concert Band for eight years and is also a part of the Bella Vista Men's Chorus.
Mark Anderson began by playing guitar in small bands while growing up around Colorado Springs, Colo. At one point, he and his wife, Katie, moved to Nashville, Tenn., where he began writing music for Opryland Music Group. He has had songs recorded by George Jones, Wynonna Judd, Tracy Byrd and others. Mark now works for Wal-Mart Stores Inc. in the construction department. He also plays every Saturday night in Pea Ridge and the Red Barn and on Sunday morning with the Praise Band at First United Methodist Church of Bella Vista.
