To Bentonville officials on the recent announcement that they will soon begin repairs on the dam at Lake Bella Vista. For months now dozens, if not hundreds of walkers, joggers, and outdoor enthusiasts young and old have been inconvenienced by the closing of part of the walking trail around the lake. We all look forward to the reopening of the trail.

To the men and women of law enforecement, particularly those here in Bella Vista, who were instrumental in putting Brian Bergthold behind bars for 70 years in federal prison. He was convicted of producing and transporting child pornography. In addition, he also was sentenced to 40 years in Arkansas for sexually assaulting two boys.

To the remaining members of the Bella Vista Property Owners Association Joint Advisory Committee on Environment who, when their numbers fell from seven to just three, did not give up and fold. Instead, knowing they have a very important job, they reached out to others with expertise on the environment and conservation to help them continue. All of us will be better off for it.

To all of the Bella Vistans who competed in this year's Senior Olympics. They proved to all of us that age is just a number and anybody can accomplish just about anything if they put their mind to it. Congratulations to Dick Andrews, Stephen Fox, Shirley Hofmann, Bill Keller, Billy Lillard and Bonnie Vines. And root for Vines as she continues on to the national level.
