To everybody who is willing to examine and exhaust every non-lethal possibility of reducing the number of Canada geese in Bella Vista before using the Property Owners Association's federal depredation permit to kill up to 100 of the birds. To everybody who attended, participated in, sponsored or otherwise were a part of this year's Independance Day Parade. Because of you all it was a red, white and blue success. To whoever was driving the car last month that struck a bicycle rider along U. S. 71 at Town Center. You know who you are - a witness says you get out of your van and look at the injured man. Then you returned to your vehicle and drove away. You have been able to avoid the police so far, but they will find you eventually. It's just a matter of time. To 41-year-old swimmer Dara Torres, a mother of a 2-year-old, who has qualified for her fifth Olympics earlier this month. She gives us all hope and makes us realize that age is only a number.

To everybody who stopped and tried to help a little dog that had been hit by a car along Arkansas 340 early last month. It would appear from the letter, which can be found on this page today, that the dog did not survive its injuries. But at least some people cared enough to try.

To Kevin Smith, of Bella Vista, charged last week by authorities with allegedly starving three pit-bull-mix puppies and neglecting them by not treating them for parasites. While Smith is innocent until he is proven guilty, if he is found guilty, we can only hope the judge has a very big book to throw at him.

To a group of unidentified women who, when they found two toddlers walking along a busy Bella Vista street earlier this month, took the initiative to make sure those babies were safe until authorities could arrive and take them into protective custody. To the driver who called police earlier this month to report a possible drunk driver on U. S. 71. That suspect was later seen being put through a field sobriety test in the parking lot of a local bank. He appeared to be staggering during that examination. If he was drunk, the person who called it in might have saved a life.
