Genealogical Society The Northwest Arkansas Genealogical Society will meet Monday, Aug. 25, at 6 p.m. in the Bentonville Public Library, 405 S. Main. Bob Fancher will present a program on the 1857 Utah Mountain Meadows Massacre. The families killed all came from northwest Arkansas. They were migrating to California under the leadership of Captain Alexander Fancher, a cattle farmer who had lived in Benton County. Fancher will present the society a collection of books and materials focused on the history of the massacre.
The public is invited. VFW Post 9063 Auxiliary The ladies of the Robert M. Sterrett Veterans of Foreign Wars Post will meet Thursday, Aug. 21, at 1 p.m. The post is located at 103 Veterans Way, adjacent to Lake Bella Vista and the Veterans Wall of Honor.
A program on cancer research and detection will be presented.
In addition, the ladies will be planning their participation in the Bella Vista Senior Health Fair to be held Sept. 25.
Members and guests may bring their lunch for fellowship prior to the meeting. Drinks will be provided.
