ROGERS - The Arkansas War Cats have been forced to revise their schedule for the second time this season because another team has been cut from the first-year World Football League.

The War Cats' scheduled opponent for this past weekend - the Texarkana Warriors - forfeited their season.

The War Cats' Web site issued an apology to its fans after Saturday's home game was canceled.

"The Arkansas War Cats would like to apologize to all of their fans and sponsors in advance for the lack of respect for the game of football by our scheduled opponent, the Texarkana Warriors, who have forfeited the remainder of their season," a note on the Web site said. The War Cats, who play at Gates Stadium in Rogers, have added an addition home game on the weekend of Aug. 16 to make up for Saturday.

The War Cats travel to Texas to play the Dallas Diesel this weekend before returning home against the league-leading Oklahoma Thunder on Aug. 2. After another trip to Texas to play the Austin Gamebreakers, the War Cats will then host the Tulsa (Okla. ) Knights in a non-league game for the second time this season. The War Cats will have another game or a bye on Aug. 23 before the WFL playoffs - now shortened by a week - begin Aug. 30.

The league's original schedule included a four-week playoff, ending with the World Bowl II championship game at the Independence Bowl Stadium in Shreveport, La., on Sept. 20.

There are now just three playoff games, including the title game, on the schedule.

The War Cats' Web site also lists a non-league game against the Arkansas Rhinos - a member of the North American Football League - on Sept. 13.

The War Cats are 1-4 in games played this season, losing to the Thunder, Diesel and Knights.

The WFL had two teams drop out last month, forcing the league to reschedule the remainder of the season.

The league started with nine teams from four states but the San Antonio Warriors and the Louisiana Lightning dropped out during June.

The Warriors decided not to join the WFL after finishing their scheduled in the Texas United Football League.

The Lightning were kicked out of the WFL for failing to do the work required by the league, War Cats owner James Burkheart told The Daily Record last month.

The reason for Texarkana's forfeit was not released.

The original WFL folded in 1975 before finishing its second season and the name had laid dormant until CEO Chip Pierce resurrected by buying the rights in November.
