BELLA VISTA - Bella Vista Property Owners Association officials will discuss a survey about water backflow at the POA Board of Directors meeting at 6 tonight at the Bella Vista Country Club.

The purpose of the survey is to help the POA comply with the Arkansas Department of Health's rules and regulations concerning public-water systems by tracking which residents have backflow-prevention devices installed and when those devices were last inspected.

Mike Taggart, director of the Maintenance and Construction Division, will address the issue at the meeting.

The board wants to begin educating residents about backflow.

"We really want to get this out in front to people," said POA Communications Manager Christy Attlesey, who added that a survey could be sent out as soon as August.

Backflow is the reversal of normal direction of the flow of water, which can occur with devices such as irrigation systems. Backflow can introduce potentially harmful chemicals and pathogens into the public water system.

Also on the agenda is the issue of bylaw amendments, specifically in dealing with general elections. The bylaw amendments deal with the voters' right to privacy, which has come into question recently because voters are required to sign their names on ballots.

The board will also consider revising its parliamentary procedures. This came about after the board reached a decision on the issue of overseeding in May, then voted on it again at last month's meeting. The board will take an initial look at reforming its discussion process.
