Pelphrey too tall for the skies

John Pelphrey's scheduled flight with the Blue Angels at the Little Rock Air Force base tomorrow has been canceled. Apparently, Pelphrey, at 6-foot-7, is too tall to sit in a fighter jet.

The UA sports information office just let us know, and Pelphrey released a statement expressing his disappointment.

"I'm disappointed, but I'm appreciative of them extending the invitation," Pelphrey said. "I'm respectful of the rules and guidelines they have. This goes to show you what a fine organization they are that this didn't get by them before I got down there.

"I did ask if they could make the plane bigger, but I'll have to live with my disappointment," Pelphrey says. "This is the first time in my life I've wished I was smaller."

Pelphrey isn't too small to hit the court and sky a 3-pointer or two in the Red-White game, though. Last year he participated with the Hogs because of a shortage of players on the team due to the suspensions of Gary Ervin, Michael Washington and Patrick Beverley.

The Hogs have just 11 players on the team right now, and another shortage for the Red-White game is very possible come Oct. 24. Pelphrey ruled out playing this season in the intrasquad scrimmage at his Monday press conference, however.

No fun for coach Pel, it seems.
