Your Turn: Hogs take down Auburn
Arkansas just got its biggest win of the Bobby Petrino era with a 25-22 triumph over Auburn. Now it’s your turn to fire back. Leave your comments below and reflect on the Razorbacks first SEC win.
Michael Smith ran all over the Tigers and surely brought back memories of Fred Talley. Smith rushed for 176 yards on 35 carries, and also had two catches for 46 yards. The Razorbacks defense put up their best showing of the season, giving up just 193 yards.
So, take this into account: Smith out-gained the Auburn offense, 212-193. The Hogs had 416 yards of offense.
Also stay tuned for Nate Allen’s recap from Auburn, Ala., here on WholeHogSports.com. Times sports editor Terry Wood will also have his post-game column up here pretty soon.
For now, leave your comments below on a huge Hogs win.

First, congrats HOGS! Here’s hoping the winning feeling sticks.
The Good News - once again this team demonstrates resiliency. Similar to the first two wins in the season, when the team put itself (or found itself) in a position to win, this group is strong. Stopping Auburn in the 4th quarter, in Auburn, is nothing short of impressive.
Keep running the ball behind that maturing O-line, get those young freshman running backs some touches, and eat the clock to avoid having the young secondary exposed (reference Florida, Texas, Alabama).
The Bad News: With respect for Casey, please keep his choices to a minimum. If he doesn’t get how key his decision making is to the fortunes of this team, then take those opportunities away from him. It may be anti-Petrino, but the Coach needs improvement from the whole team and not just Casey. i regret/suspect that Casey has achieved at the highest level he will during his time at Arkansas. He’s at his best when he hands off and throws those short simple routes. It will work against the rest of Arkansas’ opponents (until LSU).
And hey - just like that … a December Bowl game doesn’t seem so unachieveable.

Like I said the scores will start flipping. Hey Mike, now that my friend, is football with excellence!!! Syay out of trouble and get your degree while kicking some football ass. Same goes for the rest of my big time hogs!!! Congadulations!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
great job players and coaches. Great game plan and good execution. I think we’ll be contenders in no time. Even in a rebuilding year without the “type” of players Petroino wants, the offense is pretty productive. The future is bright.
I’ll just copy and paste what I already wrote:
Sweet Victory!!!! Finally, we were prepared, we competed, and we won! Granted, people can mock the fact that we were getting AU’s offense in transition, but the defense still stepped up and played big. Moreover, the offense shredded a top-tier defense. There are some things that I still wish we could do better (special teams, I am looking in your direction–Punter excluded), but that is not important right now. It looked as though we were making improvements last week against UF, and this week we continued that improvement against a quality team. Since I have been quick to criticize the coaching staff agains UT and (the other) UA, I will be quick to applaud them for this victory. Though I did not get to see it, it sounded like the players competed.
THANK YOU players/coaches for keeping me glued to the radio. Hats off to Adrian Davis, Jeremy Davis, Michael Smith, Joe Adams, and the entire O line. Finally, looking forward to next week.
I think Saturday Oct. 11 th was the official start of the Bobby Petrino era for Arkansas. We went thru three of the toughest games any school will play this year and finally can see a little light. I don’t know how many more games we will win this year - I don’t see any automatic wins - but I believe that a couple of bricks were put in the “foundation” yesterday and hopefully we will see more this year and then some real Razorback Football.
It’s good to be a HOG!
Woooo! Pig Soooie! Razorbacks!! We are improving as a team, and sustaining that improvement. We can’t let our guards down. There are still many areas to improve, namely our un-special teams play and Casey’s interceptions. Take away those mistakes yesterday, and the game is a blowout victory for the Hogs. The defense is making some strides, and the offense is moving the ball. Things are looking up, but we still have a long way to go. But given the way we played Florida last week for three quarters, and they way they destroyed LSU yesterday, I’m happier about the progress we’re making. As teamhawg said, I’m finally looking forward to the next game. Go Hogs!!
The kids are young and will still make mistakes, but in time, these guys will be the core of a BCS team. I like Casey, but Ryan Mallett has a bazooka arm and is going to be a major player. The future is bright. Go Hogs!
Great victoy that should boost this teams confidence. You have to give the staff and players credit for going on the road and taking this game from a team wanting to make a statement in their own way. The last half of this season will tell a lot about this staff as they expand the playbook. We will have to live with Casey, but special teams play has GOT to change! Excited about things to come. GO HOGS!
Once again, Casey Dick passed for 200+ yards. Yes, he had interceptions. Yes, they cost points. But, no one can say this young man recognizes the word “quit.”
He and the rest of the team refused to fold in the second half and it showed.
Ryan Mallet will have his time soon enough. For now, everyone on that team, including Casey, have a win to be proud of.
Now on to Kentucky and another opportunity to laugh at the bandwagon jumpers. Thanks for your words of praise, Wally Hall, but your column today rings hollow. Uhh, Auburn was no UAPB.
After a very long weekend, I must take the time to congratulate the Hogs on having the heart to not quit and give up. This Auburn team was not only in turmoil with its staff, but is simply a poor representation of what Auburn football is all about. We have found that same thing out this year, but the Hogs found a way and had the will to win and Auburn didn’t.
Congratulations to the team and hopefully we can use this stepping block for a tough test on the road next week. We all know that there is really only one game that matters this year and it is in a couple of weeks. That game only happens one time and that’s the only game we really care about.
We have to rely on Michael Smith in the same way we did D-Mac and Jones. We need to continue to change this offense and I will just wait and see. I want to see what was promised in the passing game, but may just have to wait until next year to see that. At least I won’t take heat this week at work.
And ua87, just remember it was one game and Wally Hall just tries to keep things in perspective as a realist. He has insights that do not cloud his judgment. That’s his job.
It’s always funny to me how when things go bad, some people can’t wait to post their critical comments … sometimes even before the game is over. But then when things go good, and we happen to win a game over a quality opponent, it takes a couple of days to formulate a condecending “realist” approach.
I think everyone has a “real” understanding of what we are this year and what we have to work with. We may win some more games, and we may not. Personally, I think we will win a few more, but probably not the rest of them. Anyone that watches the SEC every week can see that nobody wins them all. That could be good or bad for us. But, if we play good football and don’t turn the ball over, we stand a better chance of being the spoiler than the spoiled. So, why be critical of anyone who tries to be optomistic? Who says optimism isn’t realistic? But, I guess there are always those who strive to achieve some kind of personal satisfaction by trying to belittle others.
Have fun boys. Belittle away …
Go HOGS, beat Kentucky!!
