You Pick ‘Em: Arkansas vs. Auburn

Take your pick. Will No. 20 Auburn, without its Spread guru calling the plays, run all over the Hogs? Or can the Hogs run all over a team in disarray?

Before you give your pick, lets recap the Florida picks from last week. The Hogs lost 38-7, and were within 17-7 heading into the fourth quarter. Terry Wood was the closest of the Northwest Arkansas Times staff, predicting a 42-17 Gators win. Reader foukehog was the closest prognosticator with a prediction of a 34-10 Florida win.

Keep in mind, fans, Fred Talley won’t be tearing up the Tigers’ defense and running by your window in this one. So, if any Auburn fans want to make a prediction below, keep that under advisement. I will, however, provide to you that Michael Smith is the closest runner the Hogs have had since Talley’s departure.

With that, I open it up for your Arkansas at Auburn projections.

Give us a stat line, your comments and whatever else comes across your noggin.

And don’t forget your score prediction.

Here’s how we see it:

Times staff picks

Brandon Marcello
Auburn 27, Arkansas 14

I made this prediction before the news broke of Tony Franklin’s firing as Auburn’s offensive coordinator, but I still think it sticks. Auburn’s run game with Ben Tate will get going, and the Razorbacks’ run defense is horrible. This could be worse, but Auburn’s passing offense is going to be bad in this one. Arkansas makes it respectable.

Terry Wood
Auburn 19, Arkansas 3

If the Razorbacks play four quarters as well as they played three against Florida, it shouldn¹t get much worse than this. If not, it could be even worse.

Joe West
Auburn 20, Arkansas 14

Arkansas keeps it close.

David Showers
Auburn 23, Arkansas 10

The Tigers muster enough offense to support their stingy defense.

Heath Allen
Auburn 31, Arkansas 13

Arkansas again experiences improved play in several areas but inconsistency on offense and defensive miscues widen the gap in another blowout loss for the Hogs.

  1. well i think we getting better but not there yet

  2. It won’t be as big of a surprise as when D-Mac ran all over them two years ago on the way to victory, but Michael Smith and Joe Adams will provide the scores to give the Hogs their first SEC win.

    Arkansas 21-17 Auburn

  3. Seeing improvement last week, with the Gators, I am going to revert back to my calendar/schedule from the beginning of the year to predict this one.

I think the kids on the Hill probably saw on film that they were closer than the Florida score might indicate to your average ESPN viewer on Sunday morning and, because of this, begin to gain much-needed confidence.

    Hogs steal it, 17-13.

  4. First SEC win for the hogs comes on Saturday.

    Arkansas 14 Auburn 10

  5. From everything written and said, Bobby Petrino hates to lose. With this in mind, the “pups” at some point will begin to bite. Whether that happens this year, remains to be seen. However, with the freshmen on board and the incoming recruits [together with Ryan Mallett], it will happen - and the “biting” will eventually become a mauling. Go Hogs!

Winning at Auburn with veteran team is difficult. I hope to be wrong, but don’t see it happening this year.

    Auburn 24, Arkansas 7

  6. Auburn is not haf the team that the Hogs have faced the past three weeks. In fact, they are not the typical Tigers at all.
The problem…the Hogs are not a good team either right now. We have been loosing on average 46-10. I’ll just take half of that.
    Auburn 23 Arkansas 10.

  7. Auburn 21, Arkansas 14. I would not count on us making a field goal.

  8. I think this game is winable. Auburn is in disarray offensively. Arkansas is due for some turnovers. I also think some confidence was gained from playing Florida tough last week. Arkansas upsets Auburn 21-13.

  9. Every year Hogs always manage to play one game possessed and blessed. New here in blog land so why not step out there before my antipsychotic meds kick in. Hogs finally get that home run play through the air and Tehada redeems himself from a distance. Arkansas 20 Auburn 17

  10. Hogs will upset Auburn 24-21 with a stout defensive gameplan. Dick will have a good day as Joe Adams and D.J. tear up the linebackers and secondary.

  11. UPSET SPECIAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Arkansas 18
    Auburn 17

Arkansas scores on a late Auburn miscue. Petrino elects to go for the win rather than tie and OT.

  12. Hogs win a close one 14-10

  13. I don’t even know which way to go with this game. On one hand, both sides of the ball showed some progress last week for three quarters. But on the other hand, we reverted back to our old ways in the 4th quarter. There is also no track record this season of us sustaining improvement from one game to the next. This game could go either way: a close Hogs win or another blowout loss. Auburn will run the ball, and probably do it very well against our porous defense. Until I see sustained improvement, I have to pick against the Hogs again. Hogs 7 Auburn 27

  14. I have to agree with two people this week: Dr. Lou on ESPN and Coach Petrino. Petrino expects Auburn to run more this weekend and Dr. Lou’s advice to Arkansas last week was to swap the defensive line for the offensive line because the D-line is opening up huge holes for the running game — the opponents running game.
Our defense has been giving up huges chunks in yardage and lots of points, therefore Auburn will “miraculously” find an offense this weekend. Plus, Auburn has the 2nd best defense in the nation and because we can move the ball from the 30 to the 30 but can’t get into the end zone, Auburn wins in a dominant fashion 28 to 7.

  15. Respects to hognaustin, but I’ve GOT to comment. Lou Holtz is an idiot and his ESPN fingers to the wind prognisticators project victories based on a team du jour mentality even my football impaired girlfriend could equal. They lost all credibility with me after touting the feel good Gator over the far more proven Mcfadden for.the Heisman. Hell TT wont even see the Big Apple this year. Anyone could look like a genious on that set! PS ESPN, GF is looking for a great paying job.

  16. I should win a free t-shirt or a job at the Times!! I was almost spot on with my prognostication. Hope this lasts!!!
