A call to arms: UA seniors rally the troops
One thing is for certain during this three-game losing streak. Arkansas’ confidence will not falter.
That’s the word from a few players after practice today as the Hogs prepare for a trip to No. 20 Auburn.
And it seems the Hogs got a much-needed booster shot from within nine days ago. Apparently the players held a team meeting after the 52-10 debacle in Austin. A few seniors, including quarterback Casey Dick and center Jonathan Luigs, stepped up during the players’ meeting and rallied the troops, redshirt freshman Grant Cook said.
“(They) got up there and said, ‘Hey, we’ve got to get in here, we’ve got to practice and we’ve really got to get stuff going,’” Cook recalled.
One of those items the Razorbacks need to correct was the offense’s struggles. The Hogs failed to score a touchdown on offense against the Longhorns and scored just two (one in mop-up duty) against Alabama.
Arkansas moved the ball better against Florida, but they still failed to convert more often than not on the Gators’ side of the field in a 38-7 loss.
Luigs said he realized after the Texas game that the players wanted to “fight and keep beating.”
As a result, Arkansas held tough with the then-No. 12 Gators six days later. Arkansas was within 17-7 going into the fourth quarter.
“Really, I think, that was the turning point right there,” Cook said. “… I think that’s the turning point of the season.”
I guess we shall see as the season progresses.
