You Pick ‘Em: Florida vs. Arkansas

Take your pick. Is No. 12 Florida going to be another in a long line of opponents to pile it on the Hogs?

Before you give your pick, lets recap the Texas picks from last week. The Hogs and coach Bobby Petrino suffered their worst loss of the season and career, respectively, 52-10. Arkansas allowed seven sacks and couldn’t score a touchdown on offense.

Terry Wood was the closest of the Northwest Arkansas Times staff, predicting a 59-10 Texas win. For the second week in a row, reader gatorjag was the closest prognosticator. In fact, the Razorback fan hailing from Florida picked the exact final score of 52-10.

With that, I open it up for your Florida-Arkansas projections.

Give us a stat line, your comments and whatever else comes across your noggin.

And don’t forget your score prediction.

Here’s how we see it:

Times staff picks

Nate Allen
Florida 49, Arkansas 14

Hogs will keep trying but Tebow and Harvin seem too much.

Brandon Marcello
Florida 55, Arkansas 21

The Hogs score two touchdowns late in this one, but Tim Tebow and crew absolutely mutilate the Hogs in the first half. Watch Tebow run for 100-plus in this game and also throw for 200-plus. The Gators’ offense won’t leave their defense much pig meat to eat, especially with Tebow’s crocodile tears drowning the Hogs.

Terry Wood
Florida 42, Arkansas 17

Expect the Tim Tebow led Gators to play better than they did at Oxford, Miss., last week when turnovers proved costly. The loss of senior nose guard Ernest Mitchell to a knee injury isn’t going to help the Hogs’ beleaguered run defense, either. Unless the Hogs can run better against Florida than they did against Texas or Alabama, the score could even be worse. The Gators will want to score style points to move back up in the rankings. Meyer will hang 70 on the Hogs if he can.

Joe West
Florida 41, Arkansas 14

Meyer, Tebow, Harvin and Co. will not allow the Gators to lose a second straight game. Hogs just ready to get to the “softer” part of their schedule.

David Showers
Florida 56, Arkansas 7

Florida has too much speed for Arkansas’ beleaguered defense to contain. The Gators could probably score 80 points if they were so inclined.

Heath Allen
Florida 48, Arkansas 12

Florida scores early and often in Hogs’ third straight pummeling. Gator defense stifles Arkansas at home.

  1. Thanks for the kind write-up guys. The doctor in Florida just sees things a ittle different than most in Arkansas so it has been easier to win two weeks in a row.
I know these Gators and I know they are ready to make a statement. Tebow is determined to dictate this game and I belive that the Gators will impose thier will on the Razorbacks. The scoreboard will only stop lighting up when Coach Meyer decides to. It will be another embarassing loss for the Hogs.
Tebow will throw 4 TD’s, while Dick throws 3 INT’s and has one pick six. Harvin, Raines, and Moody should also play big.The Gator defense will be responsible for more points than the Hogs offense.
This young team will just have to take notes for years to come.
    Florida 59 Hogs 9

  2. Gatorjag says he knows the Gators. I doubt he had the Gators losing to the Rebels, who hadnt won a SEC game since ‘06. Also, doubt the Hogs will have to take notes for years to come, this year and next maybe. As for this game, Florida will bounce back from an embarrasing loss and win 44-14 against a bunch of 18 year olds.

  3. While the “doctor in Florida” has done quite well the last couple of weeks predicting embarrassing Hogs’ losses, I personally also think he’s drinking funny Kool-Aid if he thinks we’ll be taking “notes for years to come.” Unless I was initially correct and he really DOES have a time machine…how else would he get the score exactly correct? Anyway, I digress…

Tebow and Co. will bounce back and Meyer will not be happy unless he’s able to hang half a century on us like Texas did…close but no cigar, Hogs lose to UF:

    46-17

  4. I apologize.
Please allow me to explain. When I say “This young team will just have to take notes for years to come.”
What I mean is that this team will need to take notes on Saturday that should benifit them for years to come. If these freshman play Florida 4 times, the notes on Saturday should be helpful as they progress in the years to come.

  5. well i pick ark over texas last week if we cant get up for texas then i dont know ;we are better than we had play so far but i dont think florida is as good as they have been so i make this game florida 34 ark 10

  6. Well, it’s been ugly the past 2 weeks and I showed my football knowledge by picking the Hogs to pull upsets over 2 REALLY good teams. I would really like to go with the Hogs again, just because everyone else will pick the obvious but I just can’t do it again this week. Unless this team shows more heart, it’s gonna be brutal! Gators 52 Hogs 10….Tebow (i’m sorry, I just can’t stand him) leads the way & they score at will on us.

  7. I believe that things are going to get better and better for this team as they mature and learn the Petrino system. Florida is not as good as either Alabama or Texas. Florida is not the only team that will be mad. Arkansas didn’t play well at Austin and will be determined for this one in front of the home fans. Hopefully, the stadium will be full and the fans will support this young team. I am going to predict that Arkansas plays their best game of the year. The Hogs will score on their first possession, and will be able to sprinkle in some run with the pass throughout the game. That will make it difficult for Florida to key in on Dick. On defense, Arkansas is due for some turnovers, and Florida has already shown against Ole Miss that they are not immune to giving up the ball. Arkansas will hold a lead late in the game, but this time Tebow will be able to keep the game-ending drive alive. Florida scores at the end of the game to avoid a second straight upset. Florida wins 28-24, but the Hogs grow up in the process and gain valuable confidence.

  8. There are no bigger Hog fans out there than I, and if I were a player on this team, I would pick us to win because a player has to have that mindset. However, as a fan I can see that right now Florida can name its score against us. We haven’t started a single game well this year, and I see no reason to think we will do that this week. The coaches have said that they want to emphasize the run a little extra this week, so we’ll see if that pays off; running the ball and taking time off the clock is the only way I see us limiting Florida’s scoring. We went backwards on offense between AL and TX; what will happen this week, and how much will OUR offense contribute to THEIR point total? Florida 51 Hogs 7

  9. since noone predict an upset, i will. i know that the chances are slim to none, but what the heck. 28-24 hogs win.

  10. Combine an off year in talent with a completely new offensive and defensive scheme, and every team in the country would be experiencing some serious growing pains.

Nolan Richardson’s first Razorback team was something like 12 wins and 16 losses. We all know the rest of the story, once Richardson recruited his own players.

It may not happen this year, but the football program will rise again. Gators 45, Hogs 28

  11. Oh, I hate this!!! It pains me to even thing about how bad this will be but it should come as no surprise to any of us. The pre-season strengths of our team are now a huge liability - our O and D lines. And with Tebow’s apology and promise to Gator fans after their stumble against Ole Miss, watch out! Let’s face the fact that we can’t keep anybody from scoring and we can’t score ourselves so it will be Floriday 63 - Arkansas 7. Waaaaahhhh!

  12. I knew from the beginning when the Hogs barely beat Western Illinois that it would be a long season. And I am sick of losing! I am a die hard Razorback fan and i will be behind this team win or lose. But i hate to say it Florida 55 Ark 7.

  13. Florida 42, Arkansas 17.

  14. I am going to keep believing the scores will flip. It might not happen this year but it will.

    Akkansas 27, Florida 24

  15. In response to dwp’s comments, Nolan’s kids finished 12-18 in 1985, my sophomore year on The Hill. The football team continues to struggle likewise.

Lets face it. Florida is major league tickked off at losing in the swamp last Saturday. They’re seething to get out on a field and take out their frustrations. I just hope that Urban Meyer does not show the classless stunt he pulled against Miami, kicking a field goal with less than two minutes to go and up by more than 20. That kind of crap gets you payback in spades in later seasons.

For Arkansas, the strategy has to be keeping the offense on the field as long as possible. Three and outs will have the defense leaning over, grabbing their pants between plays before halftime. Unfortunately, another beating is coming.

    Florida 55
    Arkansas 16

Oh and thanks to the writers for complementing gatorjag. Nothing quite like paying tribute to someone who’s not a Razorback Fan.

  16. Did you know that gatorjag was ‘begging’ for ark to score a TD so his prediction would be correct? just an FYI. i don’t know if i feel happy that another team’s fan pulling for us, or he’s just piling it on in sacarcism(sp) way. however, nice prediction.

  17. Well as a young 13 year old I have not been through so many terrible losses. I know I am young but this is the worst iv ever seen a hog team play. Arkansas has always had hope, but I just don’t have much.

But I will pick an upset Arkansas 28 Florida 27
This is on pure hope, I refuse to pick against the hogs.
I have never lost hope I just don’t have very much this year. I hope that one player will step up to be extraordinary this week so I can hang my hat on them and put more hope in my razorback viens. Arkansas needs a new guy we can look up to like Mcfadden did these past few years. Lets hope we get one and a big Hog win !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

  18. [...] you give your pick, lets recap the Florida picks from last week. The Hogs lost 38-7, and were within 17-7 heading into the fourth quarter. Terry [...]
