You Pick ‘Em: Arkansas vs. Texas
Take your pick. Is No. 7 Texas going to give the nation an encore performance of ‘Bama’s dominance over the Hogs last week, or do the Razorbacks bounce back in a miraculous win?

Before you give your pick, lets recap the Alabama picks from last week. The Hogs were bludgeoned, 49-14, at home and took two interceptions back for touchdowns.
Brandon Marcello was the closest of the Northwest Arkansas Times staff, predicting a 38-17 Alabama win. Reader gatorjag was the closest prognosticator. Gatorjag also picked a 38-17 loss for Arkansas. Surprisingly, quite a few of you picked the Hogs over ‘Bama. Will you do the same this week?
With that, I open it up for your Arkansas-Texas projections.
Give us a stat line, your comments and whatever else comes across your noggin.
And don’t forget your score prediction.
Times staff picks
Brandon Marcello
Texas 42, Arkansas 21
The Hogs get their early points, and perhaps score their first touchdown of the first quarter this season, but Texas proves too much on offense and beats the Hogs down in the second and third quarters. Ignore Texas’ national ranking of 103rd in pass defense. They’ll do better Saturday against the Razorbacks’ passing attack.
Terry Wood
Texas 59, Arkansas 10
Joe West
Texas 38, Arkansas 17
Believe it or not, I think the Arkansas passing game will exploit a shaky Texas secondary early and the Hogs will take a short-lived lead. However, the Longhorns will adjust and own the game’s final three quarters.
Heath Allen
Texas 44, Arkansas 18

Sorry, guys…I just can’t go out on such a limb this week, playing in Austin. I will be AT the game with my Longhorn wife, but you’d better believe I’ll be wearing my Razorback red in a sea of “puke” orange, as the Boz once called it. I think Dick recovers a bit from last week and I think Wilson shows more of his talent later in the game which will always cause some fans to wonder…what if?
We keep it close for a bit, but the ‘Horns just have too much talent and experience right now and we lose touch in the second half. The drive back to Houston is gonna suck.
Texas 41, Arkansas 17
I grew up hating everything about Texas and #1 on that list was the Longhorns, but we simply do have the team everybody thought we would have. I was one that thought Petrino was the answer to our desire for an SEC and National Championship. Well now… that aint happening anytime soon.
Texas 52 Arkansas 10.
If you think this will be bad, just wait until next week when the Gators show up.
Keep it civil and non-condescending after Saturday gatorjag. I’m back from disaster relief services in Houston and got my eyes on you. Nevertheless,
UT 48, UA 7
I should have added my office pick last week for the Alabama game - I picked Alabama 52-10 over the Hogs. I see that gatorjag picked my score for the Texas game. It will be ugly - very ugly - and I have to agree with gatorjag - sorry but I pick 52-10 also but gatorjag beat me to the pick.
The only reason it won’t be worse is that Mack Brown is a nice guy - too nice in my opinion - and he will let off on the offense in the second half. Most of my Texas friends here in Austin want to run up the score - knock us down, kick us while we’re down - and then spit on us and kick dirt on us. Several of them hate us more than they do OU. And they want to beat us so bad that we won’t ever schedule a game with them again! And I thought my hatred for UT was bad. Jeez! I had someone offer me tickets but I’m not going. I can’t bear to watch.
I have heard a rumor that with Dick’s inspiring tackles last week, Petrino is converting him to free safety, and Tyler Wilson will start at quarterback. Sounds pretty good to me!!
As a south Texas resident, I dislike UT as much as anyone. However, this game is far less important than any SEC game - like it or not, Horn fans.
It will be a tough gig this year in Austin, but do not despair Razorback fans. The program shall rise again.
Arkansas 38, Texas 10 [COTTON BOWL 2010]
NEVER SEEN A HOG FAN PICK U T - PITIFUL-JUST PITIFUL-YOU HAVE TO BE NUTT FANS- THE HOGS WILL WHIP THE T-SIPS-STRAIGHT UP!!!
I was wondering where ua87 and dpw were and lo and behold …there baaack! LOL!
So, let me get this straight 87, you think I should “Keep it civil and non-condescending after Saturday gatorjag”? Did you happen to read the top of this blog?
Allow me.
“Before you give your pick, lets recap the Alabama picks from last week. The Hogs were bludgeoned, 49-14, at home and took two interceptions back for touchdowns.”

I seem to still be one of the few that seems to live in the state of reality with this team. You can say what you want, think what you want and belive whatever makes you feel ggod, BUT the truth for me and Scathog and many other contributors is that we were asked to invest in the future of this team. We were ask to invest in a plan that would outperform the past and bring championships to Arkansas.
Well, right now I feel like I invested in Fannie and Freddie and I need a bailout plan quickly bacause my return on investment does not seem to be there.
87, you say you just came back from Texas to help with disater relief? We will be needing your expertise in disaters over the next few weeks. Especially next week. I will be there to assist if needed.
Come on guys is there not one Arkansas fan that will pick the Hogs to pull the upset. Well, okay, I was a little shell shocked by our effort last week as well. I believe the Hogs are going to bounce back this week and shock the world. Casey Dick will have a big game, Michael Smith will run Hog Wild all over Texas and Tejada will hit a 53 yarder as time expires: Arkansas 41 Texas 38.
I’m going with Krome, Hogs 31-”puke” orange 24. Of course I picked us to beat Bama, so maybe I should use reverse strategy & pick the Horns & then we win! I called play action & short passes over the middle last week & will call for the same style offense this week as well. First play of the game for our offense needs to be a bomb down the sideline for the fastest receiver on our team. Whether we complete that pass or not, it sets up play action throughout the game. GO HOGS!!!
UPSETS ABOUND IN AUSTIN/CORVALLIS
hogs 31 horns 20
well i think we are better that that but can we beat tx i not sure on that but i pick ark 24-21 over tx

You want to know how to identify a rabid hog fan. Look at his prediction regardless of the opponent. I am not giving up on this young team. We will turn the corner and the scores will start to flip in our favor. Play umm like Oregon St. did USC or like Boise St. did Oklahoma.
Arkansas 34, Texas 31
Welcome back, JagNutt. Briefly, I can assure you that many of us have invested in this program every bit as much as you, my dear friend. However, unlike you perhaps, I am no where near throwing in the towel on Petrino and company. His past easily speaks for itself and in a couple of years, my “investment” will pay major dividends.
As to this team, thus far, I share your concern and disappointment. However, these kids are not Bobby Petrino’s recruits. He has been on campus for less than a year. Once he gets his kind of player into his kind of system the program will rise again. I am absolutely certain about that. The program has gone through wholesale change. These things take time.
Our recent success was because Houston Nutt was born and raised a Razorback. He knew what about the Ol’ SWC battles we had in the ’60’s and ’70’s. Mack Brown didn’t know how motivate kids who didn’t know about the rivals coming to town. We have a new coach now. I’m sure coach Petrino has been told what this game means to the state of Arkansas and it’s fans; it just will not be the same as having Nutt in that field house. Lucky for us that Texas’ secondary is just as young as ours. Hoping our speed on defense is something their offense has seen yet. Colt is now a veteran in this Longhorn offense and a proven leader. Arkansas has a veteran QB too, but he and his teammates are learning a totally new system and will still make mistakes; especially on their first road game of the year. GLuck
Texas 38 Arkansas 24
Well, I can’t pick texas over Arkansas and the small t is correct. Arkansas comes to texas to play football this week. Arkansas gets +3 on the turn over side and runs an intereception back for a touchdown. Casey Dick throws 3 touchdown passes and only 1 interception and the ground game makes 200 yards holding Texas to 320 yards total offense. So what about that perdiction? Oh yeh, the score is AR 24 tX 21.
I love my hogs to death but things don’t look good….
Which is why I am predicting the UPSET !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Arkansas 38 Texsas 35
Simith runs for 250 and D.J catches 2 big TD’s for the second big upset of the week !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Go Hogs Wooooooo PIG Soooooieeeeeee !!!!!!!!!!!!!
I hear you, Hillis22. When I was about your age, Bill Montgomery, and then, Joe Ferguson were my idols. Regardless of what happens tomorrow in Austin, the Razorbacks will rise again. And with Petrino, it will be sooner than later. Go Hogs!
Hogs rarely beat Tex@$$ anyways, whether we’re good or bad, so this down year is the perfect time to play them for the last time. Why ruin a good year with a loss to the Longhorns?! Next year we move on to Texas A&M and put the Texas rivalry to rest. The last regular season game ever between the Hogs and the Horns will go down as a 55-21 Tex@$$ win, which happens to be the Horns v. Hogs overall record in the series.
I will always be an Arkansas fan….but I believe they lack heart, discipline, leadership, teamwork, or fundamentals (it has been several years now). The USC loss this week against Oregon State shows that you don’t always need to have the best talent, but those things I mentioned above. I don’t mind losing because we are in a rebuilding year (again), but losing and playing like a junior varsity team is just hard to swallow.
TEXAS 66 ARK 24
Casey Dick throws 3 touchdowns for UT because he chokes in big games
We get 1 TD on a kickoff return
We score 2 TD in the 2nd half with Wilson against UTs 2nd team defense
UT gets TDs with blocked punt and block FG try
UA defense can’t stop the pass
