You Pick ‘Em: Alabama vs. Arkansas
Take your pick. Is No. 9 Alabama just too much to handle for the Hogs, or do the Razorbacks somehow get it all together to pull off the upset Saturday morning? Give us your score.
But before you do, let’s recap the ULM picks from two weeks ago. The Hogs beat the Warhawks in final-minute style, 28-27. Joe West was the closest of the Northwest Arkansas Times staff, predicting a 24-10 Arkansas win.
Reader cajunhog was the closest prognosticator, predicting a 30-24 Arkansas win.
So, with that, I open it up for your Alabama-Arkansas projections. Will Arkansas be able to handle Tide quarterback John Parker Wilson and the scary looking defensive line led by the 365-pound Terrence Cody? Or is this early morning game a real eye-opener for all the positive pundits out there saying the Hogs still have a shot?
Give us a stat line, your comments and whatever else comes across your noggin.
And don’t forget your score prediction.
Times staff picks
Brandon Marcello
Alabama 38, Arkansas 17
If the Hogs manage two good drives on offense to open the game with the running game, Arkansas may be able to stay in this one. I say they don’t, and the Tide wrap this one up before halftime. The three Daves will look marvelous in Raycom HD, however.
Terry Wood
Alabama 31, Arkansas 14
Joe West
Alabama 30, Arkansas 21
Mr. West, who has been the most accurate on the staff, thinks Arkansas makes it respectable in the fourth quarter.
Heath Allen
Alabama 37, Arkansas 23
Tide gives Petrinos rude awakening in SEC opener. ‘Bama defense too much for Hogs. Arkansas scores late touchdown to make it respectable.
David Showers: TBD

I guess I’ll be the first to pick the upset of the week, Hogs 24-Bama 21! I see alot of play action since I don’t think we can run through the middle against their D line. I also look for several short passes over the middle to counter their blitz schemes…Go Hogs!!
Eight different receivers make catches, but not the comeback falls short this week. Alabama 41 Arkansas 30
Watch out for Julio Jones to come up big as well as the Alabama defense. As much as I hate Bama fans, i can see the writting on the wall from Jacksonville
Alabama 38 Arkansas17.
Bama 27 Hogs 16
Not as close as the score depicts, Bama pulls back in the second half and the Hogs make a push with a fourth quarter TD and FG.
This kind of game will only make these young men stronger; toughness forged in the heat of battle.
GO HOGS GO!!!
I have to go with “snake” on this one…Hogs pull the upset at home, 31-27. These games tend to put points on the board and they’re almost ALWAYS close, no matter the quality of the other. I’m going against the grain and refuse to buy into Alabama being the 9th best team in the nation at this point.
Hell, Bama’s almost as young as we are and did ANYONE watch that Tulane game? Had it not been for special teams, it would have looked like the Auburn/MSU game this past week…just UGLY! Others see Saban but I see a team that the bottom fell out from under at the end of last season, including losing to a ULM squad that was younger than the one we scraped by. They’ve pounded and shut down two very weak teams, yes…but looked downright nasty and young against the one who put up any kind of fight. Plus, we’re rested and at the fullest strength possible.
I always hope for the best regardless of the obvious. I am going with an upset. Arkansas 30, Alabama 28.
With the [talented] youth movement in Hog town, this will likely be an up and down year. This week, UPset - as the Razorbacks roll the Tide.
Arkansas 34, Alabama 31
This has been a great game the past two years, Alabama won last year its our turn !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I also refuse to believe that Alabama is 9nth best in the country !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Arkansas 28 Alabama 25 !!!!!!!!! GO HOGS !!!!!!!!!!!!
The Tide beat us last year on a last second TD, we return the favor this year. It’s a high scoring affair, with all but one of our TD’s coming through the air, and all but two of Bama’s coming on the ground, but Bobby Petrino’s team starts to click. Hogs-41, Bama-38.
GO HOGS GO!!!
