Report: UA running back Michael Smith suspended
Breaking news from the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. Razorback beat writer Tom Murphy is reporting that Arkansas junior tailback Michael Smith has been suspended for Saturday’s game against Western Illinois.
Murphy, citing a source close to the football program, is reporting that Smith’s suspension for one game is due to a violation of NCAA rules involving the use of textbooks. For more information, check out the Democrat-Gazette on Saturday morning.
Smith was scheduled to start the 6 p.m. kickoff Saturday against Western Illinois. Presumably, if you go by the Hogs’ depth chart, true freshman Dennis Johnson will now get the call.
Smith was also suspended for one game last season by then-coach Houston Nutt after an arrest on Sept. 23. Smith was charged with second degree forgery and theft by receiving. Smith’s charges were dropped by prosecutors on Nov. 16.
Smith’s suspension lasted one week and he later traveled with the Razorbacks in Arkansas’ win against Tennessee-Chattanooga on Oct. 6.
More info to come as we get it.
