Eurotrip: Beverley to play overseas

Former Arkansas guard Patrick Beverley’s road of uncertainty may be ending just a skip over the pond, according to the Sporting News.

Patrick BeverleySean Deveney is reporting early Thursday morning that Beverley is “on the brink of signing with a European team, in Germany or Turkey, and perhaps as early as Friday.”

Beverley has also hired an agent, Bernie Lee of Lee Sport Management in Toronto, according to the report.

Beverley, who has been ignoring phone calls from the local media like the bubonic plague, chatted with Deveney on the phone Wednesday night.

Here’s more from Deveney’s exclusive:

“I’d love to play in Europe,” Beverley said. “Some of the best coaches in the world are there, and they know all about being a professional and making a living playing basketball. That’s what I want to do.”

Beverley, whose departure prompted a terse UA press release with no reasoning for his ineligibility earlier this month, told the Sporting News Today last week that his ineligibility may have something to do with a paper for a class.

Beverley and his agent told the Sporting News on Wednesday that they’re looking at teams overseas that will provide the former UA guard a chance to play right away.

Ahem.

Football, anyone?

  1. Patrick…..your self confidence needs a reality check. You are never gonna make it as a professional basketball player. Stop dreaming about the NBA. You were nothing more than a role player at Arkansas. Does the Scotty Thurman story ring a bell with you? You should focus on making a living with what’s know as a JOB!!

  2. Wish you the best of luck Pat! The University of Arkansas will miss you! Really, really miss you next year.

  3. Dana Altman obviously influenced Patrick quite a bit during his short time as coach of the Razorbacks.

  4. we will miss you just about as much as a raging case of hemeroids.

  5. Miss him? They’re standing in line to replace him. There weren’t enough basketballs with this dreamer on our team. Bye Bye Pat

  6. Goodbye, good luck, good riddance.

  7. Perhaps some are not wishing you well because they’ll miss your energy and talent. Have a great life, Patrick!

  8. “Some of the best coaches are there”. Really? When did one of them beat John Wooden and UCLA, Pat? When did one of them beat Bob Knight and Indiana, Pat? When did one of them beat Coach K and Duke, Pat? When did one of them beat Nolan and the Hogs, Pat?

Better yet, when did one of them go head-to-head with Pat Riley, Red Auerback or Phil, the Zen Master? Sure hope you figure out your life, Pat. Maybe being out of the best country in the world for awhile will help you come to grips with reality.

Spending another year with John Pelphrey would have done you a lot more good.

  9. [...] might actually be pretty surprising that any Razorback was selected, especially after the summer departure of the Hogs’ leading scorer, Patrick Beverley. The Hogs’ leading returning scorer, now, [...]
