Petrino’s photographic memory

Arkansas head coach Bobby Petrino has been called a genius, an offensive guru and one of the best play-callers in football by his colleagues. But did you know that the Razorbacks’ head Hog has a photographic memory?

Coach Petrino is a thinker.Well, he does, and that sure would explain his expertise and blazing success at Louisville (41-9). You can read more about it here, or in the Sunday tabloid, “Northwest Arkansas Football” in the Sunday copy of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.

Here’s more from the interesting article:

“He has a mathematical mind and a photographic mind,” Petrino’s father, Bobby Petrino Sr. says. “In his early days in school, he could look at a page and close it and know everything on it.”

Bobby Petrino was hesitant when asked to discuss the subject of having a photographic memory.

“It’s hard to talk about, I guess,” he said.

Pressed, Petrino admitted there is something to it.

“I could pass tests because I could think back on where something was on the page in high school that way,” he said.

Petrino is viewed as a master of mismatches. The coach makes it a point to scheme his best playmakers against the weakest players and spots on the field. And he’s probably more prepared on the fly than any other Razorbacks coach in history.

“He doesn’t even have to watch the video,” Arkansas quarterback Casey Dick said. “He’ll be talking while we’re eating dinner — ‘We called this play and you did this,’ — and he’ll just remember it from out here at practice.”

'You want me to run up the score.'“He doesn’t forget anything,” Arkansas running backs coach Tim Horton said. “It’s amazing sometimes, he and Paul will make reference to things. They’ll say, ‘Remember what we did in 1983 against Idaho State?’ and they’re able to describe it in detail. There are some days I can’t remember my anniversary.”

Scary.

No word if Petrino can cure the common cold with a snap of his wrist and a slight motion with his fingers.

Yet.

I wonder how much longer it will take for Petrino to be featured in Jedi Mind Tricks magazine.
