Beverley leaving UA hoops team

After saying he was staying a few months ago during transfer rumors, UA shooting guard Patrick Beverley, it was just announced, will not compete for the Razorbacks basketball team this fall.

UPDATE: Gary Parrish of CBSSports.com reports that Beverley will not compete this season because of an issue related to academics.

Today was the last day of summer classes at the University of Arkansas.

Patrick BeverleyUA Media Relations just sent us this:

Junior guard Patrick Beverley will not compete for the Razorbacks in the 2008-09 basketball season.

The University of Arkansas, including its administrators and coaches, will have no further comment due to student privacy laws.

In April, reports surfaced that Beverley wanted to transfer to the University of South Florida, where his former UA coach Stan Heath now coaches. Beverley was talked out of transferring by his mother and decided to stay at the University of Arkansas.

I spoke with Beverley last April, when he wouldn't comment on status messages he put on his Facebook profile that seemed to hint toward an impending transfer.

  1. There has been some factor, or factors, which has seemingly served as an undercurrent of division with the Razorbacks over the past 3 to 4 years. The players seemed to genuinely dislike one another and team chemistry has been a huge problem.

I'm not sure if Beverley was involved, but regardless, if he's not into staying, then here's wishing the kid well in south Florida - or wherever.

With some time and his own players to reflect his way of doing things, PEL will take the program [back] to the top. Go Hogs!

  2. So can we expect Stefan Welsh to take the 2 or does this mean that Rotnei Clarke will get a chance to show off his shooting touch from early in his career.
This also gives the team a distinctly Pelphrey feel as no players will be starting (except for Welsh) who seemed to start and to star in Stan Heath's system

  4. Thanks Patirick, but you were no "whats his range??? "When he walks in the gym!!!, stated Nolan Richardson" You will never be an Alex Dillard, Todd Day, Lee Mayberry, Oliver Miller, Corliss Williamson, Scotty Thurman and then talk about the "Triplets" Marvin Delph, Sidney Moncriffe, and Ron Brewer, and more and more!!! Thanks for the memories. I wish you the best and hope you don't wind up like alot of other Arkansas atheletrs lately.

  5. i've said it before, and i'll say it again (and again if necessary)...if you don't truly WANT to be a razorback, then we don't need or want you on the team. i'm not trying to be negative at all, but in team sports all must be there FOR THE TEAM. if a member is not willing to make the proper sacrifices, he should go elsewhere. Patrick Beverly is a tremendous athlete with a ton of talent and i wish him nothing but the best. now let's move on.
