Arkansas Media Day: Robinson speaks sans mustache

Defensive coordinator Willy Robinson worked the mustache hard during the spring, but a meeting with his coaches and the UA chancellor recently prompted the wild-eyed coach to shave the handlebar and buzz the hair on his head.

The meeting was about projection and perception concerning the UA. So, taking a page from that book, Wild Willy cranked out the clippers.

“I didn’t fit in with my mustache,” Robinson said. “I miss my mustache but I didn’t have the look.”

Robinson’s words prompted laughter from the media in the audience.

“… I know it’s something we do laugh about,” Robinson said, before explaining the reason behind shaving the facial hair. “… I want to have the projection, I want to have the perception.”

Robinson then later joked that his real motive was because, “I want to stay one step ahead of the posse.”

As for football business, freshman linebacker Tenarius Wright stood out yesterday in practice, Robinson said.

“We have a great anticipation for that young man,” Robinson said. “The game seems to come fairly easy to him.”

“… He’s come in here with an attitude to be a starter on this football team.”
