Basketball Hogs will host tourney in December

Arkansas’ basketball schedule for 2008-09 is not expected to be released until later this month, but we can now confirm that the Hogs will host a round-robin tournament in December.

The Razorbacks will host the Jim Thorpe Classic from Dec. 17-20. The round-robin tournament’s field has not been completed, but expect Austin Peay and Stephen F. Austin to be among the teams to make the trip to Bud Walton Arena.

The Slophouse reported June 10 that Arkansas head coach John Pelphrey was attempting to schedule a tourney near Christmas.

The tournament should help to even out the Razorbacks’ unusually high amount of road trips in the non-conference schedule, including reported trips to Missouri State and Pelphrey’s former coaching stop, South Alabama (on Nov. 26).
