Make that No. 6: Mitchell cited for drug possession
If you’re tired of hearing about Razorbacks and run-ins with the law, you’re not going to like this.

Mitchell
Mitchell was stopped by Arkansas State Police when an officer in Forrest City noticed that his tags were not displayed properly. The 22-year-old is scheduled to appear in St. Francis County District Court on Thursday.
The firearm in Mitchell’s possession was a small caliber handgun and the drugs appeared to be a small amount of marijuana, according to state police.
Mitchell was not arrested, hence the citation.
Arkansas linebacker Freddy Burton and wide receiver Marques Wade were suspended by head coach Bobby Petrino today for the first two games of the 2008 season. Burton and Wade were arrested on DWI charges within 28 days of each other. Wade was arrested Sunday after nearly hitting a police officer with his vehicle and failing field sobriety tests and a breathalyzer test.
Kevin Trainor, UA associate athletic director for media relations and communications, said Mitchell alerted Petrino of the citation “immediately” after it was issued late last month.
Petrino, Trainor said, will wait to make a decision on whether to punish Mitchell after his court appearance Thursday.
Petrino and defensive coordinator Willy Robinson talked about Mitchell with a media contingent before a media-football coaches golf scramble earier this afternoon. At that time, though, we (the media) were not aware of Mitchell’s citation and Thursday court date.
Mitchell had surgery on a knee in January and the topic of discussion was his prognosis for the upcoming season and practices that start Aug. 4.
“I’m not really sure how the knee is coming along,” Petrino said. “I know he’s been running and he’s also had it swell up a couple of times on him. It’s kind of wait and see.”
“Ernest realizes right now that he’s not where he wants to be, so it’s going to take some time and patience on us because we need him in there,” Robinson said.

Good old HDN. He sure knew how to pick ‘em. I can’t wait until he runs into this in Oxford…and he will.
While the current problems reflect poorly on HDN, there is a coach in Fayetteville who needs to get a handle on his players. Perhaps, like in the Switzer era at OU, we can look forward to the “player arrest of the day.”
HDN ain’t the coach anymore. Blame the new coach. Looks like he’s off to a fast start… hope we have enough players left to start the season.
Why don’t we all take a deep breath and relax? Here we go [again] with HDN lovers and haters. Why blame anyone? College kids make mistakes, and for the most part, these are “college kid” mistakes. I certainly had my share. Hopefully, these guys will learn from their mistakes. If not, as with Freddie Fairchild, take some serious action… as in adios.
[…] surely heard the word by now, but Razorback defensive lineman Ernest Mitchell is facing drugs and weapons charges in St. Francis County, making him the sixth(!) Hog footballer to have a run-in with Johnny Law this […]
It looks like in this post-Frank world that being an example to the kids that are Razorback fans doesn’t mean much anymore…so let’s drink a beer and wait for whose arrested next.
Dear coach: please start kicking these knuckleheads off the team and giving the opportunity to a kid who will respect it. Also, please tell Mr Long that my pitifully small booster donation checks are stopping until the arrests stop too. Enough is enough. Thanks.
