Petrino: Hogs will have new, ‘tight’ uniforms
Quite a change of pace compared to the other questions Bobby Petrino has fielded today, but I had to ask him about the rumor of a new look in the football uniforms.
And, yes, fans, there will be a different style with the uniforms, Petrino said. The uniforms, Petrino explained, will be "tight" as his son would say.
"Tight," in case you didn't know, is slang for "awesome" or "dope."
"They're going to look a little different. They're going to be sharp," Petrino said.
The image to the right has been circulating on message boards for the last few days and might just be a look at what the new jerseys will look like for 2008.
Here's more from Petrino, elaborating on a funny story about uniforms being a tool in recruiting players:
"One time I'm listening to the radio with my son, driving down the road and he said, 'I don't know why [Bob] Huggins ever left Cincinatti.' I said, 'Why? What are you talking about?' He said, 'You can recruit to Cincinatti in basketball now.' I said, 'Why you say that?' He said, 'Well, their uniforms.' I said, 'What do you mean?' He said, 'Their uniforms are tight and that's why guys go to the school, because of their uniforms.'
So we're going to try and have uniforms that are tight."

I never cared much for the big, bold "ARKANSAS" stretched across the front of the jersey. The smaller printed version in the photo, however, is much better. The helmets, however - recognized and well known from coast to coast - are already too cool. Go Hogs!
If the picture truly is representative of the new jersey, I like it. However, don't mess with the Hog on the helmet! I still don't really like the subtle changes that were made seven or eight years ago, but the basic shape of the Hog didn't really change, so it was OK. I don't want any more changes to the Hog. I know I am probably in the minority, but I liked the red pants and red jersey combination, and I'd like to see that again, not for every home game, but for some. Go Hogs!
I totally agree, wyohog: the head gear is very well recognized and cool. Do not mess with the helmets. Go Hogs!
Alabama and Oklahoma haven't changed their uniforms in 30 years and they have seemed to do alright recruiting. I think it has a lot more to do with things other than uniforms. Frankly, I am a traditionalist and I hated the red on red. Certainly the helmet is the most recognizable peice and that needs to stay unchanged. It took me a while to like the "glitter" helmet. Pants need to be white with 2 red strips and jerseys need to be traditional (with or without the Arkansas on the front).

I am also a traditionalist and prefer the standard Red jersey on white pants with 2 red stripes. I would also like to see an across the board "standard Arkansas look" for all Arkansas athletic programs. Especially in the spelling of Arkansas & Razorbacks, is cursive, arial, or block - pick a font. Sounds picky, I know, but it is the identity of the athletic program.
