Disarmed: Hogwired to be no more

The coolest named official college sports team Web site, Hogwired.com, will be no more starting July 21. In its place will be a new and improved Arkansas Razorbacks Web site simply URLed as www.arkansasrazorbacks.com, the UA announced in a press release earlier this afternoon.

We heard rumblings about this in May and sure enough the new and improved site is on its way. We hear there will be some new cool features, including 360-degree views of Razorback Stadium and Bud Walton Arena.

It should also be noted that LadyBacks.com will be thrown to the wayside as well for the new, all-encompassing Web site. As you may already know, the UA combined the men’s and women’s athletic departments earlier this year.

Most importantly, here’s hoping the new site is faster and not so slow-loading. Oh, and what was with all the mis-proportioned images on Hogwired?

Here’s more:

“It is with great anticipation that we announce a new home for Razorback Sports on the Internet,” Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics Jeff Long said. “Over the past six months, we have begun to blend our two strong and successful athletic departments into one even stronger combined program. Beginning later this month, the first visible signs of our combined program will be seen in our new web-site ArkansasRazorbacks.com where fans can follow all 19 sports and more than 450 student-athletes.”

ArkansasRazorbacks.com replaces the two current websites – Hogwired.com for men’s teams and LADYBACKS.com for women’s teams. Countdown clocks to the new website launch begin today.

“The all new web site will be an integral part of our athletic program and provide a platform to communicate with Razorback fans all over the world,” Long said. “We are excited about ArkansasRazorbacks.com and are committed to maintaining a dynamic web presence that will showcase the athletic and academic accomplishments of our student-athletes, as well as share with our fans the very positive impact our program has on the university community and the State of Arkansas.”

The new website covers all 19 sports at the University of Arkansas, and will include new features to keep fans up-to-date on Razorback athletics. Special Internet-only feature stories on Razorback athletes, behind the scenes looks into Arkansas athletics created by coaches and athletes and expanded video coverage are part of the new website.

Don’t forget to thank Al Gore for this glorious news.

  1. Coach Broyles just couldn’t see the use of the internet and the website. Hope Jeff uses it and builds it up to the best in the nation. These potential recruits are looking at the website and they want to know everything.
