The former Fort Smith Northside star was added to the Jaguars organization during training camp last year as an undrafted rookie. He was later waived on Aug. 20, but was called back to the team March 5, according to the team’s Web site, Jaguars.com.

Meanwhile, the future of former Arkansas quarterback Matt Jones as a wide receiver in Jacksonville is still up in the air. Whether he’ll be traded, released or kept on for the remaining two years of his contract may not be decided until training camp, according to reports.

In his weekly mailbag feature Monday, Jaguars.com senior editor Vic Ketchman was asked for his opinion on Jones’ volatile situation.

He was drafted to be a featured player and you can’t feature a guy when he’s your No. 5 receiver,” Ketchman wrote. “As far as I’m concerned, he has to start lighting it up. In my opinion, he has to give the Jaguars reason to believe in this training camp that he will become the star player this season that they drafted him to be.”

  1. Vic Ketchman doesn’t like Matt Jones and is biased with his opinions. He also wrote that Jones was the “feature receiver” since being drafted and has had his chances. This is simply not true. He was inactive 4 games last year and did not get many opportunities. He has been productive when used. He will have a great season if he gets enough touches.
