Arkansas gains walk-on defensive end
Desert Vista (Phoenix) High School linebacker Mike Sadoway will walk on at Arkansas in August, but told an Arizona newspaper that he will be moving to defensive end for coach Bobby Petrino.
What may be a huge question mark for the Hogs is the linebacker corps, which Sadoway could fill but says he will not. Petrino released a two-deep depth chart May 7 for the three linebacker positions, and depth will be an issue next fall.
Senior Elston Forte, listed as a starter at sam linebacker, was also listed as a back-up to Ryan Powers at will linebacker. Additionally, Arkansas’ sack leader (4.5) from last season, Freddie Fairchild, was dismissed from the team June 11.
At linebacker, Sadoway recorded 114 tackles and seven sacks in his senior season at Desert Vista. Ryan Casey of the Ahwatukee Foothill News has more:
“I played defensive end as a freshman and junior (at DV),” Sadoway told the Ahwatukee Foothill News. “I really liked it. I actually liked it more than playing linebacker.”
Sadoway visited the University of Arkansas during the Razorbacks’ spring practices and said he was impressed with the players and Petrino.
“He was really nice,” Sadoway said in the newspaper article published Tuesday. “They were in the middle of a practice, and when I went to the field he stopped what he was doing and he came up to me to talk.”
More info on Sadoway and other going-ons with former and current Razorbacks can be read tomorrow in the Northwest Arkansas Times.
