It’s all relative for Marcus, Art Monk
We knew former Razorbacks wide receiver Marcus Monk was good in college, but does he have what it takes to excel with Chicago in the NFL? Well, if genes are any teller of fortune, Monk may have a leg-up professionally.
This piece of news from ChicagoBears.com writer Larry Mayer came as bit of a shock and may help Monk’s stature among his teammates:
Seventh-round pick Marcus Monk was told by relatives three years ago during a visit to California that he’s a distant cousin of 2008 Hall of Fame inductee Art Monk. While the two have never met, the Bears rookie has always admired the former Washington Redskins receiver.
“Growing up I didn’t know that I was kin to him,” Marcus said. “But I knew he played receiver and that’s what I played. It was cool we had the same last name, so I kind of looked up to him.”
Art Monk played 16 seasons in the NFL (most with the Redskins) and had 940 receptions for 12,721 yards and 68 touchdowns, along with 332 rushing yards.
